Growing up as a home school family, we always went on lots of field trips. I have fond memories of afternoons exploring the zoo, trips made to the Monterey Bay Aquarium, and crisp Autumn days spent in Apple Hill. Continuing this love of learning, through exploring fabulous places, has been one of the most exciting aspects of home schooling for me, as I now educate my own children at home.
To help provide kids with the experiences to show them they can do great things, the Lunchables team worked with Kevin Jonas to kick off a program that will provide 50 deserving classrooms nationwide with unforgettable learning experiences they might otherwise not have. (Nominations have been closed, but read on for ways that you and your kiddos can still get involved.)
Now, of course we plan more school-related field trips during the traditional school year, but we think that the summer months are great for special trips to the Jelly Belly Factory or the Exploratorium with friends and extended family members.

In fact, Lunchables thinks that now through September is the perfect time to offer your kiddos a chance to win an ultimate field trip! Entering is as easy as finding the code on the inside of each specially marked Lunchables package and entering online in the instant win game. Prizes include admission for the winner and up to ten friends to the San Diego Zoo, Kennedy Space Center and more!
But, that’s not all. How would you like the opportunity to join the Young family (that’s us!) on a field trip to the Exploratorium, in San Francisco, this summer? Well, Lunchables is going to make that happen for one lucky winner and her family. (Be sure you read the rules carefully before entering.)
There are three ways to enter:
- Leave me a comment telling me about your favorite memory of a field trip, either when you were a child or one you experienced with your own children.
- Leave me a comment telling me why you would like to spend a day with us at the Exploratorium. Please include the number of adults and children in your family.
- Post a link to this giveaway on your Facebook wall, with a brief explanation of why you are entering. Be sure you leave me a comment saying you did this.
Rules:
- Prize includes admission only for up to 2 adults and 2 children (children ages 3 and under are free).
- You must be willing to provide your own transportation to and from the Exploratorium on a mutually agreed upon date in June or July.
- The field trip will be documented using a digital camera provided by Lunchables. Winner’s family must agree to be photographed and blogged about here at From Dates to Diapers.
- Open to California residents only.
- Only three entries per person, please. A comment must be left for each entry. (see above)
- Random drawing will be held on June 20, 2010 and notified shortly thereafter.
We’re looking forward to a fabulous day with some of our friends in San Francisco. Maybe it’ll be you!

Hey,
My most memorable field trip growing up would have to be going to the Jelly Belly Factory with Grandma and Sr. JeanMaire. Every time I go back I am flooded with fond memories of the laughter as we all strolled through the factory! And browsing though the merchandise knowing without a doubt that grandmas purchase of black licorice Jelly Belly’s were for grandpa to add to his stash of sweets he would “hide” in his desk drawer.
I’m looking forward to many field trips with my children, to create new memories! The best part of field trips is going with those I love and building relationships while learning together, even if it is just a candy factory.
Thank you for entering me!

Well, my husband and two little guys would absolutely love to go to the Exploratorium with you and the rest of the Young brood. Anytime the Youngs are around it just seems to be so much more fun! We’ve been talking of going for some time now and winning admission tickets would just make it all good!
Thank you for entering us!

Some of my favorite feild trips were when we were home schooled. We went on several different trips with other home schoolers. Christine and her brothers and sisters were among those that went with us. I reall enjoyed our trip to the Bay Area.
My faimly would enojoy a trip to the aquarium with The Young family. My children have never been to an aquarium and I woould love to meet up with Christine again after 20 years. There are 7 of us. My husband and I. Five children ages 2, 5, 6, 7, and 10 would be going.
I just posted a link on my facebook for this contest.
My most memorable field trip was going to Sea World (San Diego) in 2nd grade. My mom was a volunteer for that trip, and I remember feeling soooo cool that she was one of the helpers there with us
Of course, Sea World was awesome, but I think what made that trip so special was that my mom was there with me.
My family would love, love, love going with you to the Exploratorium! Whatever we do with you guys is so much fun. Going to such a cool place would be icing on the cake!!!
Oddly enough almost all of my field trip memories include lunchables! We were a family on a budget and lunchables were extra special because we only got them on field trips (or when my mom ran out of bread and turkey!)
I think my favorite field trip was was outdoor-ed in sixth grade. A week long trip to Mendocino with my whole class. We explored tide pools, went on hikes, kissed banana slugs, and stayed up way too late whispering in our tent cabins! The fact that my mom came along as our “tent mom” made it even better!
Thanks! Andrea
If we were to join the Young family on a fun filled trip to the Exploratorium (and we hope we do) there would be two adults and two children. A grand total of twelve if you’re counting!
When I was in middle school I went on a school trip to the Sacramento Train Museum. We’ve taken the boys there once so far, they love the trains! I also took a few camping trips but honestly I don’t remember them much. I hope to take our kids on several field trips, the Exploratorium is definitely on our list.

Our kids just love spending time with their cousins, we all would love to spend a fun day at the Exploratorium with you all! If I win, there would be two adults and two kids. Thank you, Dustin
