head coldWe are always very careful, but Ray and I are taking extra measures this year to protect our kiddos from both the seasonal flu and H1N1. It’s also important that we don’t forget about ourselves, though, and Walgreens is making it easy!

This flu season, Walgreens has taken a leadership role in flu prevention. Seventy-five percent of their pharmacists are now certified to immunize, and in-store flu shots are ony $24.99 (which may be covered by insurance plans as well as Medicare Part B).

Find a Walgreens near you where you can get your flu shot AND don’t forget to follow these simple, everyday tips to help prevent catching or spreading the flu ::

  • Make sure your kiddos know to cover their mouth with a tissue when they cough or sneeze.
  • Wash your kiddos hands often and be sure you wash yours with warm, soapy water for 10-15 seconds or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer, especially after sneezing or coughing.
  • Keep all living areas clean by using household disinfectants, and sanitize surfaces with bleach or alcohol. This is especially important when it comes to the household items that are most-often used, like your telephone, computer keyboard, and remotes.
  • Avoid contact with others who are sick.
  • If you are sick, stay home and rest.
  • Remind yourself and your family members to avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth.

Walgreens was gracious enough to give me a $25 gift card to go get my flu shot and have also given me one to give to a From Dates to Diapers reader.  Since flu shots are only $24.99 at Walgreens, you could go get a flu shot for free if you win!

My best tip to avoid the FLu is to do your shopping during slow hours like After Midnight at Supe wally world.
This way you come into contact with less people.
carry hand wipes & wipe the basket handle.

I try to run all my errands when the stores are less busy in order to come into contact with less people.

Over 200,000 people are hospitalized each year from complications related to the flu, and 36,000 per year die from flu related causes. The CDC (the Center for Disease Control and Prevention) recommends seasonal flu vaccinations as the best way to prevent the flu.

If you decide to get vaccinated, medtipster is a great site that can help you in your search! Just type in your ziipcode to find out where to get vaccinated in your area.

    Good luck in your decision!

  8. I need to take it easy when I go to conferences cuz let me tell ya, being sick is NOT cool!

Great tips by the way! Unfortunately for me, when I get sick, it sticks with me for a while…

Yeah, um, I’ve been sick ALOT this year – more than normal – and I’ve discovered why… I used to take a nutritional supplement called EnerPrime and I stopped. I need to start taking it again, but I’d be glad to tell you about it. It’s amazing!
