The Boulevard CS – Safe and snug with just a click!

by Christine - From Dates to Diapers on September 15, 2008

It seems my baby is no longer a baby. As most of you know, Noah turned one last month. He is walking, eating “real” food, saying a few simple words, and faces forward in the car like his older brothers and sister.

He hit the 20 pound mark long before his first birthday, and he outgrew his infant car seat just way too fast. I wasn’t quite ready to hit that milestone! But hit it he did, and I reluctantly went on a quest to find the best car seat for my littlest guy.

I have been more than happy with all of my Graco seats in the past, but I had heard only great things about the safety features on Britax car seats, and was eager to try the new Boulevard CS.

Did you know that 59% of harness straps aren’t tight enough to keep your little one safe? It was with these concerns in mind that Britax developed the Boulevard CS.

“Loose harness straps should be a critical safety concern for all parents,” said Laura Jana, M.D., pediatrician, child passenger safety technician and mother of three. “The harness straps serve the very important, and ultimately life-saving purpose of keeping children properly positioned and secured in their child safety seat. If these straps are not properly fastened or are loose at the time of a crash, children run a greater risk of being ineffectively restrained or even ejected from their seats – putting them at much greater risk of injury.”

“The Click & Safe answers parents’ biggest car seat fear – that they’ve not properly harnessed their child,” said Pankaj Amesar, advanced technology program manager for Britax Child Safety Inc. “This audible parental aide helps make traveling with a child less stressful while furthering Britax’s mission to advance child safety.”

With the new Click & Safe snug harness indicator present on the Boulevard CS, I can rest easy knowing that Noah is safe and snug, with a simple click.

The Boulevard CS is as simple to use as it is safe. Premium push-button LATCH connectors allow for quick, reliable installation, and its easy-turn knob adjusts the head restraint and harness height, without having to remove the seat from the vehicle. Unique features include Britax’s patented Versa-Tether for energy management, rear- and forward-facing recline for child positioning, and a body pillow for comfort. Noah is probably the most comfortable passenger of us all!

At around $329.99 per seat, security (and comfort) doesn’t come cheap. But, WAIT…

It hurts at first to buy the Britax, but it is 100% worth it. My girlfriend got in a terrible accident w/ her two kids a few years ago. Car was completely totalled – rolled over 3 times. Her kids were unscratched in their Britax seats. I invested in 2 for my kids shortly afterwards! My 5 year old is still in her Britax that I got when she was 1! They are well worth the investment.

Every car seat in my car is a Britax (4 of them). We have 2 Britax Parkways for my 8 year olds (goes to 100lbs). My two younger ones have a Marathon and a Roundabout. I also have a Regent to upgrade my 4 year old into when the new baby is born, so the new baby can take over the Roundabout and my 20 month old move from the Roundabout to the Marathon.

Seriously piece of mind car seats. A dent in the wallet, but worth it.

We are going to go buy a Boulevard CS this weekend for my 8 month old.. so excited! However, the current recommendation is NOT that the baby face forward at 1 yr old and 20 lbs. It is that the seat face backwards until it is no longer permitted by the manufacturer of the seat. For the Boulevard, this is 35 lbs and within 1 inch of the top of the shell. This recommendation is pretty new, so moms of #2 often don’t know about it. Our ped says to stay rearfacing until at least 2, which shouldn’t be an issue with the Boulevard.

Lots of people get confused – it doesn’t have anything to do with being able to hold their heads up. The issue is that the bones in the neck aren’t fully formed/hardened until 2 or later, so they can separate and sever the spinal cord if the baby faces front in a crash. Also, it’s ok for the legs to be bent up in the seat – it’s not dangerous at all.

Thanks for letting me pass on the info from my dr – not all pediatricians are up to date on the latest recs. Like I said, so excited about the new seat! My husband thinks I’m nuts.
