Julia was her chatty self after school today, but made me a proud (and giggling) mama! Here’s how part of our conversation went…
Julz: This boy, Tommy*, came up to me today and said, “Hey, wanna be my girlfriend?”
Me: And, wha….
Julz: Oh, I said, “Ew, no! You realize we’re only in 4th grade, right?”
Good girl!
*The poor boy’s name was changed, so Julia’s brothers don’t find him at school tomorrow… He really doesn’t need further humiliation!

Julia is such a pretty kid! I don’t blame boys to ask her like that. It’s just a little thing called “puppy love”. But she is right, they are only in 4th grade to have a boyfriend/girlfriend relationship. and I admire her for that.

Thats awesome! Sadly Not sure I would have done the same thing. I was a tad boy obsessed when I was younger.

I had my first “girlfriend” in kindergarten, who named her dog Jeremy Pepper for me. Sadly, they gave away Jeremy Pepper (yes, that was the dog’s full name) a few years later.
I remember “going steady” in the 3rd grade. It meant we ate lunch together, and I bought her candy. Um, things really haven’t changed over the years.
Oh! That girl! shows how cute I am when i was young, LOLZ! You are so lovely.

Seriously? He had to be pseudonamed Tommy, right? Ever since that darn Tommy-boy movie – we’re pigeon-holed.
Good on ya Julia – wisdom beyond years.
When we found out we were having a girl, my first thought was about how amazing it was going to be. My family hadn’t produced a girl in over 85 years so we were the curse breakers. The next thing that occurred to me was that my family hadn’t produced a girl in 85 years, so who was going to show me the ropes?!?!
Stories like this one make me hope that my daughter grows up with the same self awareness that yours seems to possess:))
