Prepare Your Easter Meal With Savings From Walmart

by Christine - From Dates to Diapers on April 20, 2011

Easter is this weekend and for us that generally means a great big celebration, with lots of good food. Ham, a green bean casserole, warm crescent rolls and mashed potatoes are generally on the menu. Walmart, of course, has everything we need to prepare a huge feast!

We actually had the opportunity, thanks to Walmart, to put together a pre-Easter meal just this last weekend, with all the fixin’s. We were able to purchase the following ingredients to feed our family of eight (yes, only eight, since Timmy can’t eat anything yet), with plenty left over, for well under $30::

  • A Spiral-Sliced Half Ham
  • 2 cans of Pillsbury Big & Flaky Crescent Rolls
  • 2 16 oz cans of Green Giant Canned Cut Green Beans for a mini Green Bean Casserole
  • Fresh Strawberries for dessert

We had lots of yummy ham left over for sandwiches and all of our bellies were satisfied!

If the traditional Easter feast isn’t exactly what you’re looking to prepare, visit Walmart.com for some scrumptious ideas, including savory side dish recipes like the one mentioned above.

What will you be preparing for your Easter feast this weekend?

I have been compensated by Walmart for my time and efforts to create this post. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Holiday Baking with Eggland’s Best

by Christine - From Dates to Diapers on November 3, 2010

Eggland's Best, breast cancerIt’s November and with November comes the beginning of the Holiday rush, with Thanksgiving right around the corner and Christmas soon to follow. I know I’m not telling you anything you don’t already know, but this time of year brings lots and lots of baking for the Youngs. Boy, do I look forward to the sweet aromas that will fill our home!

Eggland’s Best Eggs will be used in all of our Holiday recipes, not only because of their great taste, but also because they are packed with more vitamins than other eggs on the market AND they contain less cholesterol than all other brands.

In addition, I am happy to report that Eggland’s Best is continuing their support of Breast Cancer Awareness with their generous donation to the Susan G. Komen Foundation and their pink ribbon stamped eggs through November. This alone would be reason enough to purchase these  tasty eggs, but the deliciousness and health benefits are an added bonus, don’t you think?

I plan to share some of my favorite recipes in the weeks to come, but would love to hear about YOUR favorites, too. Will you give Eggland’s Best a try in your recipes this Holiday season? Trust me, you won’t be sorry!

This post is sponsored by Eggland’s Best. I received monetary compensation for my participation, but my review and opinions are my own.

Nestle Holiday Gift Basket {Giveaway}

by Christine - From Dates to Diapers on December 22, 2009

My mom always set us up with fun things to do and create, especially around Christmas, but there is one incredibly easy craft that I particularly remember – We pressed cloves into the skin of an orange, rolled them in spices, and hung them as decorations. The sweet aroma filled our home, and to this day I remember that spicy scent with fondness.

As I was browsing through NestléFamily.com, I came across a similar holiday craft and look forward to making these with my kiddos this week ::

Create a citrus candleholder

All it takes is a few minutes to transform an ordinary orange into a lovely candleholder. You’ll need an orange, a metal tea light, some cloves and a paring knife. Cut a hole in the top of the orange that’s a little bit larger than the diameter of the tea light. Create a space for the candle to sit, and place it in. Next press cloves into the orange skin. Light the candle, then sit back and enjoy the delicious spicy-citrus scent.
