Last week, Ray and I had the privilege of attending a screening of the movie Soul Surfer with our four oldest kiddos. This true story of Bethany Hamilton sure left a lasting impression on all of us.

This movie was so well done and accurately portrays Bethany’s faith and belief that God had a plan for her life in the midst of tragedy. Not only does AnnaSophia Robb totally nail Bethany’s character, but Helen Hunt, Dennis Quaid, and Carrie Underwood play such wonderful supporting roles.
Here is Zach’s synopsis ::
Soul Surfer is a movie about a girl named Bethany who loves to surf. When Bethany’s dad was having knee surgery she went surfing with her best friend. She and her friend were lying on their boards talking when a shark bit her arm off!
Bethany’s friend’s dad rushed her to the hospital. She lost 60% of her blood and was in the hospital for a week. She knew that God had a plan for her. She trusted God.
It was hard to do anything without her arm, but she learned. She still surfs and competes in many pro competitions.
And, here is what the other kids thought ::

WOW! I can’t wait to see this movie. I love surf movies and inspirational films, so this should be a good one (well at least by the preview I just watched). Anyways … the most influential person I know is my Mom. She is my everything, always has been, always will be. I mean don’t get me wrong, I love my children and my little family that my hubby and I have created
but my mom has always had a special place in my life. She has been my support system along with my dad when I made the big move to Switzerland, to get married and start my family. If I need to complain, or talk, or whatever the case my be, she is always, and I mean ALWAYS there to help! She sends care packages to us monthly, for me and my family. We love to get goodies from America, especially with my children being born and raised here, it is good to see where their mom (me) grew up with. She always gives the best advice, and the best advice(s) I have gotten from her are these .. 1). Look it up on Google (haha). 2nd: Pray to Heavenly Father to see what he thinks, and then go for it! I am quite blessed to have her in my life, and to call her my Mom!

My mom has had a huge impact on my faith!
Hi Christine,
Thanks for visiting my blog. Your blog looks great. I love the grown-up feel combined with the mom stuff–that’s how it is, huh? You have to balance the kid-centric years with who you are as a woman. Looks like you’re doing a beautiful job.
This movie really sounds great. I’ve been seeing some interviews on TV with Bethany Hamilton and this girl really sounds like an inspiration.
One of the people who has most influenced my life is my Dad. I have seen and learned how to act in hard times, in sickness and in good times. My Dad is a true hero in my eyes and a wonderful example.
Thanks so much.

Wow! I’m really excited to see this movie and take my 10 year old. It’s important to see examples of young people trusting God and being a witness.
My husband has been the most influential person in my life. Despite losing his job and being without substantial work for 2 years, he continued to trust in God’s faithfulness. He was always such an encouragement and hard worker. He trusted God and trusted God and was an example to me of a life filled with faith. God did provide work for us after stepping out in faith and moving our family from Colorado to CA. God is good and so faithful to me by blessing me with such a God-fearing and honoring husband!
i had a minster that was very good and really believed what he was teaching mverno@roadrunner.com
My grandfather. He is an amazing man of faith. Everytime all of our extended family is together he always emphasizes how important faith is and the power of prayer. He and my grandma pray for all of his children and grandchildren by name every day and everytime he leads us in prayer as a family he cannot hold back tears. He is so wonderful!
We saw the movie this afternoon! I loved it! Even though I knew what was going to happen, I still cried at some parts… a good indication it was well done. Now I want to read her book!
When I was 18, a man who led a Bible study for teenagers was used by God to help me choose what was really important in life. Through his influence, I broke up a bad relationship, and, eventually transferred to a Bible College (Biola). I lost track of Jim, but know he continued serving the Lord.I am married to a man who has inspired me through his sermons and life to live every day for Jesus. Now, my daughter and her family inspire me. After birthing 4 children, they adopted a baby girl with Down syndrome. Later, they adopted a baby boy with Down syndrome. The love they show as a family continues to amaze me! I’m thankful God has used many people in my life.
Grandma Alice
My parents are the best inspiration to keep on and perserve.
My sister is my inspiration! She died when I was around 12 but she lived every day to the fullest. She tried her best to make people around her happy even when she wasn’t. Not only was she caring to other people but she had everyone’s back. She would always put others first before herself and that’s just the way she was. Sometimes I wonder why bad things come to good people just like Bethany, but God has a plan for everyone.
My sister is my inspiration and she makes me want to make others smile because one of the best things in life is seeing a smile on a persons face and knowing that you put it there.
Ciaran, a friend of mine, has been an inspiration to me as she was in the Carrolton bus accident where 27 people died. (This was many years ago when she was in middle school on their way back from Kings Island with the church group). She was the last one pulled out of the bus before it exploded. She has burns all over her body, but she has grown so much in her faith with God. She is a miracle and living testimony to others!!
my true inspiration is my mom. she raised my sister and me alone and had two part time jobs. my dad left when i was young and my mom did her best to keep up. she had break downs and many times i could tell she was on the borderline of completely breaking, but she kept her ground and did her best. she even saved up money for our college secretly while still paying for the bills. she truly is the best mom anyone could ever dream of. i am so thankful for her being my mother and i thank god for taking care of her.
when i saw the movie and saw how all bethany’s friends and families took care of her and how supportive they were i immediately thought of my mother. she took care of me without any conditions. <3 love u mom! hope to as great of a mother as she is!
thanks for having this contest! it would be nice to have the book. i borrowed it from my friend and it was great, almost as inspirational as the movie!
it would have to be my mom she has lead me into a good life
My Aunt Rose was my inspiration. She had a very difficult life, lost her father at a young very age, had to help her widowed mom raise her little brothers and sisters, and then buried her only daughter. Yet, despite it all, she never gave up or felt sorry for herself. She saw hope, love and beauty everywhere, even on the darkest of days. Her faith and determination served as an example for me and I miss her everyday.

My father in law has inspired me, he is passed now, but I pray when my husband gets older he is just like my father in law. Right now hes young and acts just like his mom. Thankfully he is getting better though.
I have heard such wonderful things about this movie. I think my mom has had the largest impact on my faith.
my neighbor is a true inspiration. she has survived breast cancer, and still has the sunniest warmest most wonderful outlook on life. she has never been a victim. she always has a smile, and does so much for everyone around her.
My Mom and Grandma – - – two inspirations!
I have been pleased to know several people who have inspired me. Rita Songe, the mother of eleven children and at that time 30 grandchildren offered to be a grandmother to my children. She is now 88, and we count her love and prayers for us these many years as the best gift anyone could give.
this is an easy one .. my dear friend Eva who is going on 91 yrs old

My husband has been my inspiration.
I would say my pastor’s wife is an inspiration to me. Thanks!
my husband is my inspiration, he always has faith
My mom has been such an inspiration to me. She raised us in church, and raised to be the teen and adults we are now. She has been with me through every tough situation. In October I had a huge issue, We laid on the bed and prayed. If it wasn’t for her I don’t know what I would do.
My Grandmother was a true inspiration for me because of all the obstacles she overcame in life.
