Last night I had a dream.
I was wading with Noah in a beautiful lake of crystal clear water. Family and friends were close-by, playing and splashing and swimming. Noah had a graham cracker in each hand, and was quite content hanging out with his mama in the shallow water.
Next thing I know, the water turned mucky and the sounds of laughter faded. Noah noticed several birds and stepped backwards, to get a better view, as they flew overhead. Just as I looked back from the birds to Noah, he disappeared into the pitch black water.
I dove in after him, but couldn’t force myself down deep enough. I just seemed to get in my own way. Further and further he sank, just out of reach. I popped out of the water to catch a breath and screamed for help. No one heard me. I dove back in to the deep water and could hear my own voice yelling to go deeper. Finally I grabbed Noah’s fingers and pulled his little body above water.
As I gasped for air, sweet Noah looked at me and giggled with pure joy… “I was swimming, Mommy!”
Do you, like me, ever feel like you are drowning in the busyness of life? It was the sweet innocence of childhood that reminded me today to slow down and rejoice in the Lord, even in what may seem like a bad situation.
“Be glad in the LORD, and rejoice… shout for joy.” -Psalms 32:11
