We are a family constantly on the go... To make traveling easy and fun, whether it be to the supermarket, a trip to Grandpa and Grandma's house, or just to the zoo, we are always prepared, in the car and out!
I don't know about you, but I allow my kiddos to eat and drink in the car, most of the time. Sometimes, however, I wish I didn't because spills are bound to happen! That's why having good coverage in the car is essential. YES Essentials provide much-needed protection for your car's floors and seats.
YES Essentials® fabrics and carpets are engineered with a unique combination of three patented polymer technologies:
- StainSmart® for repelling and releasing stains
- AlphaSan® for resisting odors
- ShockShield™ for reducing static shock
I currently have 2 kiddos in toddler booster seats and 2 in 5-point harnesses. Fortunately we have a pretty good system for preparing to pull out the driveway... The twins are a big help. Imagine the time it would take if I had to buckle up all four of the younger kiddos myself! The Clek booster seats are super easy to install and since it has the LATCH system, I can rest easy knowing that is is super safe! The clek booster seats are designed with an integrated rigid LATCH system to deliver both the safety of LATCH and the convenience of uncomplicated installation, features typically at odds with one another.
Wet Ones go with us everywhere! These handy wipes are perfect for wiping off every thing from ice cream smudged faces to cheeto stained fingers. I keep a package in my purse, a cannister in my car's front console, and several individually packed Wet Ones in my glove box... With six kids you never know when you may need to clean up a mess!
A good stroller is a must for any time we leave the house. Noah doesn't generally like to be in a stroller for long periods of time, so for long days out I usually wrap him on to me and stroll Ben and Josh along. I just got a lime green Phil & Ted's Sport with the double kit and have fallen in love with it! It is wonderfully lightweight and maneuverable and allows two of my kiddos to ride comfortably with plenty of room. The Phil and Ted’s company is an incredibly innovative and parent-centered company and were actually the pioneers who first featured a three wheeler with a swivel-front wheel. They certainly know what parents want and need in a stroller!
Some of the features that make this stroller my newest favorite is the large basket for storage, the sleek style, smooth and easy ride, and the fact that the fabric is tough, washable and waterproof.
Visit Let's Go Strolling for tons of information on the greatest items to make outings easy, from strollers to diaper bags. There you will find the best products for on the go, as well as superb customer service to walk you through the selection process.

Links to this post Email this postGood Morning!
Tuesday, June 10, 2008
Only occasionally will we make a big deal out of breakfast and it's most often on Daddy's days off. Typically, as the kiddos wake each morning they venture to the kitchen to grab their first meal of the day. Most often they sit down with yogurt, a bowl of cereal, or waffles - fresh from the toaster.
Since my kiddos love cereal so much, I knew they would enjoy EnviroKidz Organic Cereal. They liked it, but two boxes were gone in a single morning! This cereal is super healthy and nutritious, but at $4.29 a box, I just can't justify it... Cheerios from Coscto will have to suffice!
You know, it is so easy for me, the busy mom that I am, to skip breakfast. Of course I always make sure that my kiddos eat a healthy meal, but I have a million other things to do in the mornings, it seems. I confess, I get busy and nibble my way through the morning without taking the time to sit and eat.
Since breakfast is the most important meal of the day we need to be sure we all are eating a healthy meal... Even us busy moms as we nibble! I recently discovered Yo-Mommy yogurt. Since Noah loves Yo-Baby, I was anxious to try it. Another good breakfast food that is easy to eat on-the-go are Bagel-fuls from Kraft - Just throw a couple in the toaster, couple it with some of that yummy yogurt and you're good to go!

Wednesday, June 4, 2008
Tomorrow we are heading to the pool... Finally! We've had such beautiful Spring-like weather here in Northern California, with only a few hot days, but we are so ready for the pool! The kids just want to be out side, so what better place than poolside?
As most of you know, I have one very light-skinned child. Yes, I'm talking about Blondie. He is the only one I have been afraid would burn out in the sun. I am so glad that I found Protect A Bub protective swimwear and sunhats for him. In addition to the thick coating of sunblock with which I lather him, I now can rest at ease knowing that he's safe from the sun's burning rays. Put a pair of My 1st Shades on him, and he's good to go!
I must say, though, that the key to a safe and happy (especially afterwards) day in the sun is plenty of sunscreen, even for the little guys that don't tend to burn. Protecting their skin (and yours) from the suns harmful rays with broad-spectrum UVA / UVB protection is not only a good idea, but the right products can also provide vitamins and minerals to your skin that help aid in preventing moisture loss.
For protection I can trust, I use the Aveeno line of Continuous Protection Suncare. The Aveeno Baby Sunblock Lotion is non-greasy, fragrance-free and as gentle as water... It's a must-have for summer fun!
We use skin-care products long after exposure to the sun. My older kiddos like to lather Stuff for Sprouts Lip Stuff for Krispy Kissers all over their sun-kissed lips, whether we've been at the pool or the park. I even like to use this scrumptious balm on Ben's cheeks, mostly because it makes him smell yummy enough to eat!
Stuff for Sprouts cream or lotion is also a soothing way to moisturize after a day in the sun. I love using these products mainly because they are made of natural oils and butters that are chosen specifically for their beneficial properties in healing and soothing dry, itchy skin.
Don't forget your skin this summer as you're playing in the sun, and long after!

I have a Fun in the Sun gift pack to give one of my lucky readers!
All you have to do to enter is leave a comment on this post with your best tip for staying cool in the summer. Do this before Monday, June 16th at 9pm, and you're in!
If you would like an extra entry, feel free to write a post on your blog sharing your tip, and the link to the giveaway using the button code above.
For those of you who are curious as I am, this gift pack includes one of each of the following items:
- Tote Bag
- A Blow-Up Beach Ball
- Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Lotion with Sunscreen
- Aveeno Continuous Prtection Sunblock Face Lotion
- Aveeno Essential Moisture Lip Conditioner

Tuesday, June 3, 2008
The following may have happened in a house full of kids, somewhere not very far away... Or it could happen to you!
It's family night. You can't go out, because you have no gas in the SUV and you've already blown your entire month's gas budget. Being that you are a stay-at-home mom, you have already spent the entire day playing games and reading books with the little ones. You would really like to do something different, and you certainly don't want to make dinner.
So, you call Pizza Hut and order some Tuscani Pasta and breadsticks. The Creamy Chicken Alfredo will hit the spot (and for only $11.99 you can feed your whole family).
While you wait for your dinner to be delivered, fresh and piping hot, you pop your family's favorite movie into the DVD player. With the magic of the Projector 123, it appears on the wall of your living room. Oohs and aahs are heard all around as the kiddos are trying to figure out how that happened.
Of course you quickly hush the little boogers patiently explain to your precious children how it works, and then send them off to get their pillows and blankets.
Just before you all get cozy, the doorbell rings. On your way back to the living room you grab the paper plates and plastic forks for a yummy dinner and a quiet not-so-quiet movie.
Tuscany Pasta and breadsticks from Pizza Hut - $11.99
Projector 123 weekend rental - $99
A bunch of cuddly kiddos laying all over you, full and happy - Priceless

Sunday, June 1, 2008
My younger kids don't typically watch much TV, mostly because they love just watching their older siblings. However, all three of them are completely fascinated by the Braincandy kids. Each 40 minute DVD from Braincandy features one of the five senses. With interactive games and activities, Josh, Ben and Noah stay engaged as they learn all about their world.
Braincandy is... smart food for hungry little minds.
All of the kiddos have so much fun with Bruce Brain, the leader of the Sense Team. Daddy chases them around the house with Bruce as they play fun games to reinforce what they have learned about their senses. It's hilarious to watch!

Something Sweet From The FoundersTo find out more about Braincandy and to purchase a set of DVDs for your little thinker visit www.braincandykids.com.
Once upon a time, when our twins— Blaise and Logan--were almost three, my husband and I had a vision. That vision was enough motivation to rethink our lives, our sense of family and our careers soon Braincandy was born! In April of 2004 we quit our jobs and set up an office in the laundry room of our Seattle home. Having young twins was a handful and like all parents there were times when we just needed a little down time to take a shower or make dinner! In our diligent efforts to be conscientious parents, we discovered that what we were looking for— developmentally appropriate content that truly engaged our children rather than just putting them to sleep—wasn’t available. That’s when we began to form the ideas and concepts behind Braincandy. Editing our first DVD between “spin cycles” and the zen-like sounds of our Kenmore dryer, we saw our vision turn into reality.

It is so nice to have kids who are (sometimes) eager to help with the chores. My kiddos have all been very excited to try all of my new cleaning supplies...
The Shaklee products that we received to review were a big hit with Julia - I was happy to let her take off with the container of Basic H2 Organic Super Cleaning Wipes. Because they were designed so as not to leave behind more toxins than we were desiring to clean, I knew they would be safe for her to use to clean the bathroom counters, and wipe down the door handles and light switches.
Ben had a blast "painting" with the Shaklee Scour Off Heavy Duty Paste. It was fun for him to get his hands in the tub and rub the paste all over the stove! I'm sure he felt like I was letting him finger paint in a place that would never be allowed, and because I know that Shaklee's products are made from all-natural ingredients, without hazardous chemicals or toxic fumes, it was fun to see him play. There is something to be said for the satisfaction a mom feels when her child thinks he's making a mess, but he's actually helping to clean!
And then there's the Scrubbing Bubbles Fresh Brush Max... Ethan was eager to try this one. He slid the pad onto the wand and ran to the bathroom as soon as I gave him the go ahead. He not only cleaned the guest toilet, but his toilet and mine! Scrubbing Bubbles even has flushable brushes so the pad never even has to leave the toilet. It wasn't a bit messy, there weren't any harmful fumes, and Ethan said it was easy. Cleaning the toilet easy? Wow!
I'm sure one day, like any boy, my littlest guy will learn that the laundry room is a place to avoid, but for right now he follows me there every time I go to do laundry - Not the best place for a baby, but I have become quite skilled as the one armed laundress. Last week Noah helped me throw the Laundry Dropps pods into the washing machine before I started the load. He thought it was a game and laughed when he made it in... Score!
Perhaps that's why my kiddos are eager to help. Making chores a game is a good strategy, if I do say so myself. I hope the eagerness doesn't fade, and that my kiddos will always enjoy helping around the house.
A mom can hope, can't she?
5/31 -- This just in: Apparently I'm not the only one who puts the kids to work... Check out this post at Bubbles & Bathwater!

I didn't really think it through when I agreed to let Josh buy Moon Sand with his birthday money last month. He and the rest of the kiddos love playing with the sand that never dries, but it could be quite a chore to clean up! Little did I know I was allowing them to bring the beach indoors!
Fortunately I have a solution for making cleaning up after messy kids just a bit easier. Whether you have messy eaters, have your kiddos working on a messy craft, or they are playing with the beach indoors, just through down a splat mat. These things are great!
There are several different types of Splat Mats, but I have found only two that I really like to use:
Modern June has a selection of chic splat mats made of oilcloth. These mats clean up easily and will last throughout the years. There are a variety of patterns and designs from which you can choose, and they are pretty enough to leave on the table after the messy painting projects are hanging to dry.
Neat Solutions has a Floor Topper that is convenient and easy to use. The Floor Toppers are disposable and are perfect for the times when you may just want to grab the mess and toss it. They are also sturdy enough to use over and over again, so you get more bang for your buck. I use these when the kids are playing with the Moon Sand, mainly because I really don't have the patience to wipe the little bits of sand off of any thing!
What do you use to make cleaning up easier? I'd love to hear!

Tuesday, May 27, 2008
Josh is determined to learn to read this week. He runs around trying to find all of the books that he can read on his own. So fun!
I like to have games and activities to reinforce what the kiddos are learning. Josh loves to play Mia's Reading Adventure. Playing a Mia adventure is like being able to travel inside an animated cartoon and see the world from the perspective of a little mouse. The graphics are beautiful and Mia's Reading Adventure is a perfect tool for reinforcing Josh's beginning reading skills.
Mia's Reading Adventure is even fun for the older kids. With 12 activities, and 4 different levels, they all love helping the Bugaboo Bugs! And since it's geared for ages 5-9, I feel good about letting them all play.
Kutoka has several other games for children, including a Miss Spider Scavenger Hunt. They even have a language learning system where the older set can learn French, Spanish or English as a second language.
I guess if I have to share my computer, it's best that it's for something like a Kutoka adventure!

Being that I am an active mom, who is still nursing my littlest guy, I am always hungry! Finding nutritious snacks that I actually enjoy is sometimes quite hard, especially since I find myself constantly grazing.
NutraBella makes some wonderful bars especially for moms - The BellyBar. Sweet and satisfying, the BellyBar provides nutritional value in an all-natural and appetizing snack. My pregnant friends love the bars and shakes, and even my kiddos try to snag them! The Berry Nutty Cravings are my favorites, but my kiddos try to snag the Baby Needs Chocolate. NutraBella also has BellyBar Shakes. Both are great options for the busy moms that we are, because they keep the energy going.
Have you tried Brothers-ALL-Natural Fruit Crisps? Sooo yummy! They have several different freeze-dried fruits available, and they come in convenient snack packs for on-the-go enjoyment. My favorite are the Peach Crisps. They even have Potato Crisps, but we aren't big fans.
We all try to drink lots of water around here, especially in the hot summer months. Fortunately my kiddos would choose water over sugary drinks any day, but they loved the bot beverages. Water and vitamins are both necessary components of a good diet. If you want to maintain a healthy diet full of vitamins and minerals, it's good to eat a variety of food groups and hydrate well. bot fortified water is a good choice for the kiddos because they contain no artificial flavors, sweeteners or sugars, and they taste good!
What are some of your favorite snacks?

children's shoes were taking themselves a bit too seriously,
and feet were not having any fun.
Then one day, a new brand named Polliwalks™ was created.
Polliwalks™ brought fun back to children's feet. All the children loved their Polliwalks™.
They took them home, quickly became best friends, and lived happily every after.
When was the last time a shoe looked you in the eye and made you smile?
Feet have never had so much fun!
Go on, go outside and play!

Since I am talking shoes today I thought I would tell you all about Ben's favorite pair of shoes... His green Gator Polliwalks. They are his favorite shoes because they are so much fun to wear. And how could they not be fun? They are animals he can wear on his feet! Not only are Ben's Polliwalks fun for him, but they are also convenient for me in that he can put them on himself! That means that is one less thing for me to worry about, and he feels such a sense of accomplishment. It's win-win, and that's a plus for this mama of six!

20 years ago the "cool" shoes were made by Nike and Reebok. These Stride Rite shoes that my children have now are way more hip than anything I had growing up. I would certainly buy Stride Rite over Nike or Reebok any day!-Ray, father of six (and my hubby!)
Ray and I are so glad that there is one place where we can find quality shoes for all six of our kiddos. Shoes that are not only comfortable, but also stylish and hip.
Ethan and Zach both got a pair of the SuperBall sneakers to "help (them) run fast and jump high." Each pair has real bouncy balls in the soles and cushioning support that ensures their feet will stay cushioned and protected with each step (or leap!).
Ben and Noah also got sneakers. They are cute, sturdy and perfect for outdoor play... They even clean up great! The See-Saw and Voyager Hook and Loop shoes are designed to mimic barefoot walking and to give babies the flexible stride path and natural propulsion they need to grow into strong walkers.
Julia got the Jennifer canvas shoes... These shoes are fun, but we had to cut the elastic straps off because they hurt the tops of her feet. She now wears her shoes quite often!
Joshua loves his Boogie Board sandals. And we all know how in to his shoes Josh gets! These bright orange sandals are water friendly and "super comfy!"

Wednesday, May 14, 2008
Today I ventured off to the grocery store with my six kiddos in tow. I set out with great hopes that I could make it through Safeway, gathering all of the items on my grocery list, without losing my cool, or forgetting anything. Fortunately I remembered to grab my Moby wrap on my way out the door!
Generally I go grocery shopping well prepared and with everyone's tummies full. However, today we had to go before we ate lunch, mainly because we didn't have anything for lunch here at home. Never go to the store with hungry kids, unless you posses the self-control superpower, or you'll end up buying way too much food!
I always hear countless remarks from men and women who are amazed that I have all of my children with me at the market. I guess we are quite a spectacle... Noah wrapped up in what looks like my shirt, Ben comfy in the Clean Shopper with his OnTray loaded with yummy snacks (or my coupons), Julia and Josh playing their Nintendo DS or reading while hanging on the basket, and the twins following behind me like little ducklings! Imagine the looks and stares from people in the store!
I did manage to make it through the trip today with my patience intact. The kiddos all did really well, and we even left Safeway with two movie tickets, thanks to their current promotion... Looks like an inexpensive date night is in my future, thanks to all the snacks we bought!
So, even if you still think I'm insane for taking all of my kiddos shopping with me, you may be interested to know what items make my shopping trips just a bit easier:
- My Moby Wrap - Noah is certainly old enough to sit in the seat of the shopping cart, but I enjoy holding him while I shop. Aside from the fact that he stays happy, there wouldn't be room in the cart if I didn't hold him! I don't go shopping with all of my kiddos without my Moby!
- The Clean Shopper - Even while keeping my little Ben comfortable, the Clean Shopper protects him from all of the germs on the shopping cart.
- Shopping with My ABC's - Perfect for occupying both of my littlest ones while I shop, this book and set of plush letter's is as cute as it is entertaining.
- The OnTray - This mom invented, made in the USA contraption effortlessly attaches to the shopping cart's handlebar allowing my little guys to easily munch on snacks while I shop. It's great for holding coupons and such, too.
- The SippiGrip - This handy little thang keeps the small kiddos sippy cups handy, so I don't have to worry about losing them!

Anna Gustafson founded Oscar & Belle on the philosophy that Organic clothing need not be drab and lifeless. Oscar & Belle, Inc. was conceived in December, 2006 and launched online in September, 2007 with the goal to create a unique collection of joyful, sustainable, & healthful baby clothing and gear. Things that are not only good for babies’ health, our environment & produced ethically, but also fun and timeless. You won’t find potato sacks at Oscar & Belle.
Creating their line and the Oscar & Belle Collection was an intense and playful process. Oscar & Belle's catalog is the result - unique products created by companies that care about our environment and your baby's health.
These unique items continue to arrive at Oscar & Belle. Keep your eyes open for the newest arrival as they continue their search for the most joyful, sustainable, and healthful clothing and products available.
Anna’s passion for design grew from her love of art, and her fine arts education at the University of Minnesota. Her travels around the world have inspired her designs, and impassioned her commitment to ethical manufacturing & sustainable, organic processes. Regular visits to Guatemala, Costa Rica, Argentina & Chile continue to inspire designs, methods of garment construction, coloring and the Oscar & Belle commitment to sustainable farming and manufacturing.

I can't keep any thing sweet around this place for very long. If you know me well, you know that I have quite a sweet tooth, so you may be thinking that I devour these sweet morsels on my own. But, did you forget that I have six kids? Those kiddos can sniff out the sweets before I even have them unwrapped.
Homemade treats are around even a shorter period of time... Cookies are pulled of the sheet before they are even cool, brownies are cut when they are still gooey, and a batch of those Muddy Buddies don't last more than a day! We are a sweet-loving family!
When I received a package of decadent Yummy Mummy Brownies (brownies I didn't have to make), I hid them! I really did! I didn't want to share this box of goodness with my children, no matter how much I love them.
Let me tell you, the Caramel Nougat Brownies are irresistible. With caramel and creamy nougat mixed into Yummy Mummy Brownies, what could be better?
Not having to share them with your children!

I recently had the opportunity to try Nature's Baby All Natural Baby Products. All of their products have been formulated and tested for infants, children and adults with eczema and sensitive skin. These very conditions are what inspired them to produce their natural and organic products.
My favorite item from Nature's Baby was the Organic Soothing Stick. Made of certified organic Tamanu Oil, Shea Butter, Sunflower Oil, & Coconut Oil, this wonderful product is perfect for treating minor cuts, scrapes, burns and any dry patches. I usually carry it in my bag for the just-in-case moments. I also started using it on Ben's face before bedtime. He has patches of dry skin that become irritated often, but this Soothing Stick seems to be just exactly what he needs to heal those dry cheeks!
Among Nature's Baby All Natural Baby Products you will find mild shampoo and conditioner (in two yummy scents), moisturizer, baby oil, an aromatherapy calming spray, and much more!
I would highly recommend Nature's Baby to anyone with skin allergies, exzema, or perfect skin... The mild and organic formulas are just what we all need!
