Rio {Review and Giveaway} #RioMovie

by Christine - From Dates to Diapers on April 11, 2011

It seems like there are rarely movies in the theater that warrant a special treat out with all of our kiddos. This month we have been fortunate to see not just one, but two! We screened Soul Surfer earlier this month and just this last weekend we were able to attend a screening for the movie Rio, coming to theaters on April 15th.

While it’s true that we did see both movies for “free”, we would most definitely pay to see them again. In fact, Julia missed seeing Rio with us, so I’ll be taking her to see it this weekend, perhaps with a friend or two.

What’s so special about Rio? Well, it’s a movie that is full of adventure, tender moments, scenes that had us all in stitches, and toe-tapping music. Ray and I thoroughly enjoyed the film, and even Noah – our fidgety three-year-old, was entertained through the whole thing. Rio is definitely great fun for the whole family!

Synopsis:

From the makers of the hit ICE AGE series comes RIO, a comedy adventure about taking a walk on the wild side. Blu is a domesticated Macaw who never learned to fly, living a comfortable life with his owner and best friend Linda in the small town of Moose Lake, Minnesota. Blu and Linda think he’s the last of his kind, but when they learn about another Macaw who lives in Rio de Janeiro, they head to the faraway and exotic land to find Jewel, Blu’s female counterpart. Not long after they arrive, Blu and Jewel are kidnapped by a group of bungling animal smugglers. With the help of street smart Jewel, and a group of wise-cracking and smooth-talking city birds, Blu escapes. Now, with his new friends by his side, Blu will have to find the courage to learn to fly, thwart the kidnappers who are hot on their trail, and return to Linda, the best friend a bird ever had.

I took a trip from WY to GA to visit my family… I flew by myself with my 2 yr old son. It was the first time I had ever flown without a parent or anybody, and I was not prepared at all!! Not to mention the fact that we got snowed in that morning & missed our flight, then ran through the apart carrying him, a carseat, & a backpack to catch the next flight! By the time my mom picked me up that night, my eyebrow wouldn’t stop twitching cause I was so stressed!

This is not really a big adventure, but it was a step out of my comfort zone for sure. I joined MOPS this year. I haven’t been part of a group like this in so long since becoming a mommy, and as an introvert, it is always a huge thing to be socializing with so many people. But I love it, and I am so sad that we only have 2 more meeting for the remainder of the school year.

I am not the daring type of person at all! Well my husband and I went to Costa Rica and I actually went down a zip line!! Very out of character for me!

My big adventure was a trip to Walmart (I’m serious). I live in a small town and stepping out the door here is pretty exciting.

When I was 11 years old I went to Switzerland with my grandmother. The adventure came when I had to make the overseas flight home by myself! It ws definitely an adventure.

Talking to other moms used to be such a chore to me because I just wasn;t used to striking convos with strangers. But now, hey… I can talk a mile:)

I am never one to do things by myself. One year, alone, I set for a vacation down the shore. I spend the week by myself, and discovered I can make it on my own. It turned out to be a very enlightening experience. Thanks.

The only thing I can think of is going down one of those high, free-fall water slides they have at Wet & Wild in Orlando, FL. It took me awhile to get my nerve up. Finally, I went down, could feel myself coming off the slide, and then hit the rush of water at the bottom that gave me the most painful wedgey. I have never gone on it again.

One trip I took that got me out of my comfort zone was a few weeks after 9-11. I flew with my mom out to AZ to see her dad for his 87th B-day. I had only flown once before and had never been to AZ. I was really nervous, but it ended up to be a wonderful trip once I got into it.

I drove from SC to Nashville to go to a Bill Gaither concert by myself. I’d never had taken a trip like that without anyone.

We went to the Outer Banks and we had to go on a ferry to get to one of the islands.I am afraid of deep water.I was afraid that I would have a panic attack and ruin the trip but I ended up having a good time.

I’m trying to think of an adventure that took me out of my comfort zone… It would have to be flying to NYC from CA alone with a few layovers. I’ve traveled alone a few times before but New York beats all. I even got up the nerve to walk a few blocks alone in the city and hailed a cab and got in it ALONE!!!!!! FUN TIMES!!!!!

An adventure I took that took me out of my comfort zone was moving to California overnight to help a family in need. There 6 year old son had cancer and went into septic shock. I heard about them on a website. Talked to them on the phone hours later and within hours I was on a plane. I moved in with them and helped care for their son in the OICU at the childrens hospital of Orange County. I was SO fearful of hospitals but God gave me the strength. I moved in with complete strangers who became like family to me. Sweet Gregory is now in heaven and free of pain but the impact he left on my life has left me forever changed.
