Play more, Eat right, & Push away the screen

SUBWAY recently partnered with the National Institute of Health and their We Can! program (Ways to Enhance Children’s Activity and Nutrition), encouraging kids to push away the TV screen. In celebration of this partnership, our family received a P.E.P. Rally kit to help jump start outdoor activities with our kiddos. The box was delivered on a gorgeous day last month and soon the sidewalk chalk, jump ropes, nurf footballs, and frisbees were in the hands of six very happy kiddos.

We Can! Program

The goal behind these kits is to get parents and kids excited about being up and active, now that the weather is nice and summer is just about here. I can tell you, this kit did just that for my family… We enjoyed outside play for hours!

    My favorite outdoor activity is to go bike riding. I plan to play more and eat right by spending time with my little brothers & watching my portion sizes. I’ll work out more since I work at a gym now, and I’ll stay active outside by spending time with family!

    My favorite thing is to plaly tag with my kids. I can’t run very fast but we have lots of fun.

    We love to slide and swing at the park and we will be spending lots of time splashing at the public pool nearby weather permitting!

    we like going to the beach, swimming, and camping and amusement parks when we can.
    we drive 1200 miles one way to visit family.
    kids go to running camp and 4-H camp that are 800 and 1200 miles from home.
    they also have cross country and track practice
    they also have band camp for marching band.

    We eat more healthy because of the heat, we eat more salads and fruit

    We love seimming. So we get very excited when the weather is nicer. We spend our days at the lake or pool swimming. It is fun and we stay active as a family.

    My family spends time in the pool during the summer, which lessens the amount of time we’re sitting in front of the screen and eating junk.

    Our favorite outdoor activity is bike riding. We also have a neighborhood pool where we can swim. We’ve been trying to increase our intake of fruits and veggies and decrease fatty and high calorie foods. Thanks so much for the giveaway!

    I enjoy the 30 minute walks we take on the trails in our woods. We’re cutting back on portions and adding more fruits and veggies.

    We lead a very healthy life and my husband and I lead by example. My children know about serving sizes and the importance of fruits, veggies and lots of water. But I never discourage them to not have their kiddie goodies.

    My favorite summertime activity is biking. We love to ride our bikes all over our town. Sometimes, we pack a picnic and take off on our bikes for a day of adventure. We eat our healthy picnic lunch and bike back home! It is so fun!

    I plan to get my kids out this summer by being an example first! I take them on walks with my dog when they want to and we ride bikes.

    Our favorite summer activity is to go on nature hikes to collect leaves, sticks, rocks and bugs and talk about what we find. It’s lots of fun! We plan to also work on a veggie garden this year!

    My kids love to be outdoors – and during the summer, it’s easy to stay away from the boob tube! Riding bikes, nature hikes, swimming, ball games, etc keep us busy all summer long!

    We just moved to a great neigborhood where we live on a lake, and there is so much to do. We just bought 2 kayaks, so you can bet we are gonna be doing a lot of that this summer.

    We live right near a “greenway” – not a golf greenway, but a system of trails through the woods in our town. We love to walk there because it’s so quiet and peaceful. We also play a lot of badminton as a family and …. well… not that it’s a lot of exercise, but we play a lot of bocce ball, too.

    Here in AZ. it’s almost impossible to play outdoors during the summer but we do plan on using our pool quite often and have many a pool party!
    We are going to start inviting people over for some pool fun and some pot luck or bbq type dinners!

    We love playing badminton and racquet games. Actually there is no tv during the summer except for rainy days and one show before bedtime. It’s all about being physically active and being outdoors.

    When we go campimg we are more active & play harder. No Tv at all!
    We stay in a tent & I bring fresh fruits & veggies along to grill so we can eat healthier.

    My hubby and I and our 5 children love going for walks. Starting a few weeks ago, we promised ourselves we are going to go hiking at a local trail for an hour every other day. So far, so good, and the children love it!!

    I just love to go swimming and grilling outside. We love to play washers and horseshoes. I also love to watch the kids work in the garden. They help me with the planting and watering.

    My five-year-old is an excellent paper airplane maker, so we like to go out and fly his airplanes in our apartment’s parking lot. Also, our family camps out just about every other weekend during the late spring, summer and early fall.

    This summer, I have made out a schedule for my son, which includes lots of summer camps and outdoor activities, and which also only allows one “movie day” each week.
