Our Family’s First Fracture

by Christine - From Dates to Diapers on January 2, 2008

My little Julia broke her leg today… One girl among five brothers and she has to be the first one to break a bone!

At the park today, she and her uncle were playing on those big rubber tires. Well, apparently they both jump towards each other to the opposite tire and they had a bit of a collision. (I wasn’t there – Aunt Sara and Uncle Dustin were sparing the kids an afternoon of errands!) Julia fell and her uncle slipped on her leg. They rushed her home and put ice on her leg, because it immediately began to swell. She was very upset until I arrived at the house, but she tried to be be brave.

After observing my poor daughter and witnessing her agony, I called her daddy. He and I agreed that it would be best to take her to the hospital for x-rays since we couldn’t be certain it wasn’t more than a sore leg.

The triage nurse took one look and told us she broke it. Her leg was put in a splint and x-rays confirmed the fracture. She gets it – the entire leg – casted on Friday.

My poor baby!!

Oh no! Poor baby, I hope it heals quickly for her. My oldest daughter had a hip-to-toe cast when she was 7, and it sure wasn’t easy on any of us. I had quite a time figuring out how to bathe her without getting it wet. Sheesh! Hopefully you won’t have too hard a time with it. Good luck!

Oh poor baby and poor mama! I hope she heals quick. I bet her uncle felt so bad, too.

If her brothers are anything like my boys, they will probably feel bad for her while also telling her what a cool cast she has lol.
