Motherhood

by Christine - From Dates to Diapers on March 23, 2010

Have you seen the movie Motherhood, with Uma Thurman? I’ve not actually seen the movie, but from what I’ve heard it sounds like a fun one!

motherhood movie

I can totally relate to Eliza Welsh (Thurman), who’s a mommy blogger, and I’m sure that some of you can, too. Eliza realizes that being a mom is never easy. On a seemingly endless day she must plan a birthday party, deal with her scatter-brain husband, save her car from being towed, and write an essay for a parenting magazine all before a fast-approaching deadline. Sounds like MOTHERHOOD to me!

Even in the midst of all the chaos, there is nothing like the feel of soft baby skin! My sister has great things to say about Aveeno::

When my son Isaac was born he had the softest skin, but as the days went by he seemed to develop symptoms of eczema. There were a few home remedies that we tried but nothing quite worked until my friend gave me some Aveeno Baby Soothing Relief Moisture Cream to try. I remember the tiny red bumps and dryness clearing up within days of using the cream! Whenever his skin starts getting dry, this mama immediately rubs him down with the Aveeno Cream and I have no worries of the eczema taking over, his skin stays moisturized and healthy!

How would you like to win some fun goodies for you and your babies? I have a prize for three my friends! Enter to win a Motherhood DVD with over $450 of coupons, including a special offer from the AVEENO Baby, or one of two AVEENO Baby “Essential Daily Care” Baskets, each containing the following AVEENO Baby products:

My motherhood moment?

I was a brand-new mommy with post-pregnancy pounds to lose. I joined my local gym and on my first visit there, went full-throttle in an aerobic step class. I stepped, I bounced, I did knee lifts, and hamstring curls. I worked up a great sweat and was sure that the extra baby weight would be DRIPPING off me in no time. Well…unfortunately the only thing DRIPPING off of me during that step class was milk. Breast milk! My lactating breasts had slipped out from underneath my *double layered* sports-bras and proceeded to leak milk in two huge wet stripes down the front of my shirt. I didn’t realize it at first, but then caught a sudden glimpse of myself in the mirror and noticed the streaks. “Wow, I’m really sweaty! Look at my tummy! I’m working out SO hard! Good for me!!”

“Hmmm, but what a strange place to sweat!?! On my tummy???” Uh oh. It wasn’t sweat! I quickly put my step board away and bolted from the class early with my head hung in *UDDER* embarrassment.

THAT was my motherhood moment. :o )

Oops, my first entry didn’t submit! Here it is again: Funniest motherhood moment was when my little baby girl had just had her bottle, and my husband was playing horsey with her. I told her not to jostle her so much because she just had the bottle, and sure enough, she vomited all over him. Our older children were hysterical laughing, and I was too, she threw up on his glasses!

I think my funniest was when my daughter fell out the screen and was covered in mudd holding her brothers pacifier. She was worried about the pacifier more than her ruffles dress and her mudd covered face.

Being out shopping with our then toddler and having him misbehave and then asking his dad, “Are you going to spank by butt?” comes to mind

Sara March 24, 2010 at 5:38 pm

I had a tank top layered over a nursing tank. I had the opportunity to go to the grocery store solo, so in my haste forgot to snap up my nursing tank after feeding. Not normally noticeable except this time I was almost finished with my shopping when I looked down to see my undone snaps and the top part of my chest revealing half of the hole where my breast belongs. Not only did I not snap my tank, I didn’t pull it up either.

We went to visit my Mother-in-law in the hospital and it was a Jewish hospital. They had a Menorah that was all lit up and I lifted Nick up so he could see it. He then proceeded to blow out all the candles. He was so proud of himself because he got them all out in one breath. I wanted to crawl into a hole.

I watched that movie last night. It was very cute!

I have many favorite Motherhood moments but one that really sticks out is when I was pregnant with my last child and my 3 year old sat beside me and while I was feeling gross, fat and pregnant I told her she looked “very pretty today” and she looks at me and says “your so pretty too mom!” it totally melted my heart because I sure didn’t feel it being that pregnant!

Oh boy so many stories come to mind, here’s one, I was out shopping with my first son who was a coulée months old, he needed to be changes so as I was changing his diaper, of course he peed so high up all over my shirt, and I didn’t have a change of clothes either.
Another one was after feeding my son, my mom decided to play with him, she picked him up in the air and he vomitted right in her mouth!!!
I love the diaper cream and the body wash :)

We were in Subway and my stepson found some change. He started to hand it to the cashier and the cashier said, “Why don’t you give to it your sister?” meaning me. I do look really young for my age and I married someone 9 years older than me, but that was pretty embarassing, but the kids had a good laugh at that one. Most people want to look younger, but I would love to just look my age!

one of my craziest motherhood moments happened just a few weeks before my daughter was born. i was SUPER pregnant and had to testify in court on behalf of a client. i was sitting on the stand, being as professional and grown up as i possibly could be…well the bun in my belly lodged her feet under my ribs and started kicking…WHICH CAUSED MY BOOBS TO BOUNCE IN WAYS PREVIOUSLY THOUGHT PHYSICALLY IMPOSSIBLE. my belly was completely covered by the stand/microphone, so i just saw people scrunch their eyebrows, tilt their head and start whispering to each other. i turned as read as any tomato you’ve ever seen.

then, when i was done testifying and stood up to leave the stand, there was a collective “ohhhhhhh” as everyone put the jiggling boobs and pregnant belly together. wow. i’ll NEVER forget that. i’m just glad there’s no way those things ended up in court record!

I haven’t had any big “mommy moments” with my new baby girl but when my son was a few weeks old I went on a trip to the grocery store alone. It was my first time breast feeding and I did not realize at the time that just hearing a baby cry could make my milk let down but it did. By the time I had finished shopping and gotten to the check out line I had leaked through my pads and had two perfect palm sized wet mark on my chest.

I am not a mom yet. I’ll tell you an “aunthood” moment. I took my baby niece to this cute little ice cream parlor on a hot day last summer. I sat her on the table in front of me while I fed her ice cream. We were there for about 20 minutes before I noticed a dirty diaper smell. I picked her up to bring her out to the car to change her diaper and felt something wet on my arm under her butt. That is when I looked down to see baby poop everywhere! All down her legs, all over the table and on my arm! I was so embarrassed; I’ve never been back to that ice cream parlor!
