Mom of the Week – Jen

by Christine - From Dates to Diapers on July 7, 2008

This week I would like to introduce you to Jen, a stay at home mom of two. I was introduced to Jen and her blog, Mom of 2… (taking one day at a time), by Kellie and was glad to find another who has “hair pulling” moments!

Jen has created her own meme – Tried and True Tusdays. If you like trying new recipes, or have one to share, check out her blog every Tuesday. Her Nilla Apple Crisp looks wonderful!

Jen, please tell all of us a bit about yourself.
My husband & I met at the local country bar, thanks to my best friend. He had worked on her grandparents apple orchard for quite a few years so he was like part of the family. Every time we would see each other after being introduced that one time we would spend the night away just talking. He then got injured at work and was off work for a couple months, so we started hanging out. The girls I worked with at the time used to tease me that we would get married and I would get so offended because we were just friends who enjoyed hanging out, going fishing and going deer hunting together. After a few months I started seeing him in a different light and after awhile we ended up becoming boyfriend and girlfriend… 3 1/2 yrs later ended up getting engaged. Then on March 3, 2001 we gotg married and took a delayed honeymoon to Alaska that summer so we could go Salmon fishing!
We didn’t want to have kids right away, after getting married, so we waited about a year thinking we would get pregnant no problem, but that wasn’t the case. After a year of trying to conceive we finally found out I was pregnant!! That was one of the happiest days of our lives! I’ll never forget taking the pregnancy test before leaving for work and seeing it was positive. I didn’t believe it and ended up taking 4 more tests just to make sure.
With Katie we were thinking of starting to try to conceive and since it took so long with Kevin we thought we just wouldn’t be careful anymore… if it happened it happened. Well, that first month it happened and that was the other happiest day of our lives. The kids are a little closer than what I had hoped for (25 months) but now I wouldn’t change it for the world.

Did you always want to be a mom?
Yes! I remember when I was little my uncle asked me what I wanted to be when I got older and I said a Mom!! I’m so thankful and blessed I get to be what I always wanted to be – A stay at home mom!

If you could travel to any where in the world, where would it be, and why?
I would love to go to Hawaii someday as that’s one place I’ve never been. I’m really hoping for our 10 year anniversary we will be able to take a 2nd honeymoon and could go there. Of course, I’m not holding my breath on that one.

What is the most interesting thing about you?
I have the record in our house for the biggest deer with a bow & arrow!! While dating, Paul bought me a bow & arrow for Christmas/Valentines/Birthday. He was always trying to get a big one for “the wall” and I told him not to worry and I would get it for him. It wasn’t until we got married… that fall we went out and the 2nd day of bow season I ended up shooting the big one for the wall!! I got a perfect 10 pt buck! Paul was a little upset as he was hoping to get that deer, but was also proud of me at the same time.

Thank you, Jen, for visiting with us today!

Hi Jen! My boys are 21 months apart. They are still toddlers so I am pretty wiped out. But, I imagine it will be awesome when they are older. It was nice reading about you. Thanks for sharing!
