Kris Allen – Our New American Idol!

by Christine - From Dates to Diapers on May 21, 2009

American Idol is a family favorite… Every Wednesday night we hunker down and watch both hours of the week’s shows. Last season we cheered on “the Davids” as they auditioned, performed (and even forgot their lyrics), made it to the top 12, then the top 3, and finally the top 2. Even today the kiddos ask me to “go back to that song” because it was either David Cook or David Archuletta. Good stuff.

This year, two of our favorites from the beginning were Allison Iraheta and Danny Gokey. Allison has a huge voice and, although “she’s a little weird,” as my boys say, she sure can sing! There was just something about Danny’s voice, however, that captured us.

We were all sad when both Allison and Danny were voted off, but felt happy about rooting for Kris. Now, don’t get me wrong… I think Adam Lambert is crazy talented, but we don’t really listen to his style of music. Besides, the kiddos adore Kris!

Ethan, especially, has been a big fan ever since he discovered that Kris loves Jesus, sings at his church, and has even been on mission trips around the world. Ethan would be his best friend forever, if he knew him in real life!

Last night I think we were all pretty shocked when Kris was announced this year’s American Idol. I had convinced myself that there was no way he could win over Adam, so I think I even squeeled! Ethan made me laugh until I cried, though, when he sighed and said, “I would scream, but I’m way too tired!”

Who were you cheering on this season? Were you surprised by the results?

And, to Kris :: Congratulations on your big win!! We pray that your new title will only help you to continue to do big things for Jesus! Ooh, and have fun in Disney World!! ;)

Yay! I was happy too:) I’m with you … Adam is definitely talented with his voice & performance skills, but I couldn’t imagine listening to his entire album or an entire show!! Kris is super-talented though with the instruments … plus he’s a cutie:)

So cool! I didn’t know he was a Christian. I was rooting for him anyway—Adam wasn’t my ideal for an “American Idol”. :)

I don’t have cable but kris seemed to be the favorite around town. Sounds like we are all waiting to see what great things are in store for kris. How totally cool!!!!

We loved Allison from the start in our house as well. So, I am kinda bummed that a female did not take the crown this year, but Kris was a fantastic alternative! I think he has an opportunity to become an inspiring role model for kids like ours, Chris. I am squeeling right along with you!

Great article! Shhhh, don’t tell anyone, but I have to confess, I don’t watch American Idol. However, my daughter and some of my grandkids do and she very excitedly informed me about Kris’ win about an hour before I read it here. It was quite nice to be “In the loop” for once. :) And I was thrilled to see the winner turn out to be such a great role model for my grandkids. I’ll definitely be praying for him and his family as I suspect their life is about to turn upside down. :)

I love American Idol but we go to church on Wed nights so I totally missed alot of it. My hubby did DVR some of it. I am happy that Kris won!

I was rooting for Kris all season! He has such an adorable smile and I loved his versatility with the guitar and keyboard as well as his vocals. Then I saw on a message board a few weeks ago that he was a worship leader at his church and I was even more proud to cast my vote for him each week! Go, Kris- talented with integrity (you don’t see too much of that these days)
