Hi Christine,

My favorite memory is a really warped one but because my parents were divorced, I spent the night before Christmas Eve will my father and I had Christmas at his house on Christmas Eve. Once I was older, I lived with him and so I would spend the night with my mom the night before Christmas Eve and my dad would pick me up on his way to my Grammy’s.

By the time I was 14 or so, we exchanged gifts while driving down the road. By that age he had taken my gift receiving down to 2 or 3 big gifts instead of all the little stuff that my mom usually provided. One year it was tickets to see Prince in concert and other small things like that or money that could be easily unwrapped and enjoyed while hanging out chatting with him.

He died when I was 19. Now, while we are gone to my Grammy’s on Christmas Eve, my mom comes to our house and puts out pj’s for everyone and the boys think Santa’s Elves leave them.

I prefer to think of it as a gift from my dad.

It’s hard to pick out just one memory but it would have to be when a family we adopted lost there home in a tornado that year. They were staying with us while there house was being rebuilt. They spent Christmas at our house, and at the time I had always taken for granted what we we able to give the children each year for Christmas.

That year we bought less for our children and helped buy gifts for the Harper Family. Just seeing how excited those 4 little kids were to have presents made me realize the true meaning of Christmas.

Ours was definently explaining why we have a Christmas to our 3 1/2 year old, he wasn’t so sure of the concept of Jesus but caught on soon after. Wish we could have caught it on tape, so cute. Now every question I answer ‘i don’t know’ to he answers ‘Jesus made it like that, the one up there!’. Adorable!!

My favorite holiday memory was actually created this year. The newest member of our family celebrated her first Christmas and reminded me that the best gift I could ever receive was her. She crawled right up on top of the gifts and planted herself under the tree. Here’s a visual if you’re interested, the only thing missing is a bow. http://3kidsandus.com/2009/under-the-christmas-tree/

My favorite memory is getting married at Christmastime, 11 years ago! So we’re celebrating our anniversary as well as Christmas and New Year’s for the next few days. ;-)

I treasure the times during Christmas Eve when the whole family sits around reminiscing about people and events from the past…remembering family who couldn’t be with us and telling entertaining stories that make us smile to think of them instead of sad that they couldn’t be with us.

My favorite holiday memory is watching my parents with their grandchildren. It is also amazing to watch my grandmother with her three great-grandchildren when the extended family is together. Thanks for the fun and hope you and your family had a wonderful Christmas.

I remember getting a red wagon for Christmas. I had that wagon for about 8 years before the wheels literally fell off of it. I carried baby dolls in it for rides outside, I made mud pies in it, I attached it to the back of my bike and hauled things….I loved that Christmas

My favorite holiday memory is easy. I’ve been reading The Night Before Christmas to my grandchildren on Christmas Eve since they were born. I have five grandchildren ranging in age from 10 months to 10 years. If they are not with me I read the story to them over the phone. We look forward to this tradition every year.

My favorite Holiday memory is from when I was 16 yrs old and we went to my Grandmother’s in KY. All of my cousins were there, my Aunts & Uncles, we all slept in floors, fold out couches, and spare rooms. It was so cool then! There was snow everywhere and looking out my Grandmother’s front door you could see the mountains directly across the street w/ snow sheets looking so beautiful and undisturbed. My Grandmother always makes a huge breakfast of scrambled eggs and fried eggs, sausage gravy & biscuits, sausage, bacon, grits, pancakes & waffles, and her homemade syrups in 3 flavors. I don’t eat breakfast but i always did at my Granny’s! ;) I can still remember the year I was 16, after breakfast all of my cousins and I went for a hike up the mountain behind my Gran’s house. It wasn’t the gifts that year that were so memorable because to do this day I don’t remember what I got that year. It was the time we spent with my entire family! I miss those times and even though we have family reunions every June, I haven’t had a time like that or remembered when we’ve all gotten together since.

My favorite holiday memory was my husband taking hours to put together a Transformers Optimus Prime – only for my son to take it apart 5 minutes later.

My favorite holiday memory is the first christmas that my son really understood the whole concept of Santa. He was 4 and super excited about the big day. On Christmas morning we woke up at my parents place and proceeded to open all our gifts. The look of joy on my son’s face as he tore through his gifts was absolutely priceless. It did not matter what he got he just loved opening them all.
After the gifts were all opened my dad took my son upstairs to the bedroom and told him that he noticed something odd by the bedroom window. The looked out and sure enough there was a present on the roof and a piece of red material on the windowsill. Santa had been there and a gift had fallen out of his torn bag!!! My son’s reaction was the cutest and I will never forget it. It just brought back memories of when I was young and Christmas was a totally magical time.

A favorite memory….driving down to Florida from Indiana to visit our family. They were trying to move into a new house (during the Christmas holiday) and had just had knee surgery. It was really nice to be able to help them out. They’ve done so much for us over the years. It was a privilege!

Mindy December 26, 2009 at 11:36 am

I think my favorite holiday memory came just yesterday…watching my two-year-old Hannah celebrate the first Christmas where she actually “got it”. Shrieking with delight as we told her of all of the family that she would see, tearing into Christmas presents at her great-Granny’s house, playing with the cousins, and stuffing her face full of ice cream and pie. It was such a fun day because she was finally old enough to participate in the festivities!

This year was a new Holiday Memory. My family was all together cooking and opening gifts. this is the first time that we were together all at once. It felt so relaxing and really a time to reflect on the true meaning of Christmas! When I was little my memory was mom taking us to Santa’s Village in the Big Bear Mountains telling us it was the North Pole. They had toys elfs Santa it was an amusment park. They don’t have it anymore but it was a memory I will have for years to come.

My favorite part of Christmas day has always been waking up in the morning. When I was a kid it was the anticipation of what I would find and getting up SOOOO early and having to wait on my parents while I went nuts wondering what was in the packages. Now, its the anticipation of listening to my own children pitter pat out to the living room and listening as they look around and discover what Santa brought for them. I now have a new perspective on what my parents were doing when I was a kid! I just love the anticipation and that great feeling!

My favorite Christmas memory was just last year when my one year old got so excited over a gift. It was a toddler-size fold-up chair, and you would have thought he had won the lottery. He squealed with delight, then spent most of the day sitting in it and swinging his feet. The next few years should get even better as he gets to meet Santa Claus.

My favorite memory was one that took place yesterday. My mom had changed her mind about coming into town, but changed it again a couple days before. I actually got the call when she was on the train here, but she asked me to keep it a secret. We loved the looks on the faces of those when they showed up at our house and saw she was there!!!

My favorite Christmas memory is Christmas Eve. My whole family would come over. The house would smell so good. The lights, the fire in he fire place, the tree, and the presents. This was the only time each year that are whole family was together.

My favorite holiday memory was when my mom, sister, and I all wore matching pj’s on the last Christmas we spent under one roof. We wore santa hats as we unwrapped our presents. And of course I enjoy every holiday (Holy Day) with my children.

One of my favorite holiday memories is getting to watch fireworks from the balcony of a 20-story apartment building in Germany on New Year’s Eve. As an 8 or 9 yo, I thought that was *the* coolest thing in the world! :)

Hmmm, so many great ones to choose from! :) I’d have to say my 2 year old son (almost 3) really starting to understand Christmas and the meaning behind it. He’s able to name all the figurines in the nativity, and we’re able to teach him more about Jesus and the free gift He’s given to all of us. It’s just so amazing to be able to talk to him about the real reason for Christmas. :)

My favorite memory is when we were all little kids living in our single wide mobile home and waking up early Christmas morning listening to Manheim Steamroller playing on the record player. We were all comfy cozy on our couch practically on top of eachother – dad filming us and my dear older sister always starting it off with the date. Just being little and the anticipation of Christmas and spending time with family! Now having little kids and starting our own little memories is priceless! I love Christmas time and celebrating the birth of our Savior!!

I love reminiscing, Sara

Some of my favorite holiday memories are from when I was little. I had two sisters and a brother. My grandparents would come to our house on Christmas Eve. After dinner and dessert, my parents would put us to bed with the Yule Log on tv. We eventually fell asleep only to be awaken by Santa ringing his bells outside yelling Merry Christmas. We would get up and go to the living room (around 2 am) and the tree (which wasnt up when we went to bed) would be up and decorated. My grandparents would still be there to watch us open gifts santa left us. It felt so magical…the way my mom made it appear that santa came and put up the tree and left the presents. I loved that my grandparents were there to see us open the gifts. The next day, we would go to their house for a wonderful Christmas dinner.

My favorite is both happy and sad. We lost my mom just weeks before Christmas. She LOVED christmas and we discovered that she had a shopping list all ready, so my sister ran out and got everything on the list. She had already bought her first grandchild, my nephew some gifts too. But the most amazing gifts were wrapped by my dad to my sister and I. He found them hidden in their closet…..a book of memories for mom/daughter. While it wasn’t yet filled out….it was a moment I’ll always remember.

My favorite holiday memory? Just one? I loved the one when I was old enough to doubt there might be a Santa – my family drove a small car with all four of the kids to spend Christmas with grandparents a 3 day drive away. Since I would have known if they fit big presents in the car, I knew Santa had to be real because Christmas morning there was a bicycle for me and another one for my brother! I also loved this one – the kids are old enough to get excited, family came to visit, friends spent time with us. It was relaxing and fun!
