What color comes to mind when you think of Barbie? Is green the color you see? Well, it should because Barbie is teaming up with Walmart to go green!
Walmart will be inviting customers to have fun while contributing to a more sustainable future with “Give Back with Barbie Cares,” an in-store event Saturday, November 8th from noon to 3pm. Moms, daughters and Barbie lovers can bring in their “previously loved” Barbie dolls and drop them in a pink recycle bin, in the toy department. Each girl who donates a doll will receive a free pink sustainable shopping bag from Mattel. Mattel will also donate a new doll to a local children’s hospital, up to 100,000 dolls! The donated dolls will be used in sustainability research through Waste Management.
There is more good news for all of the little Barbie lovers… You will have the opportunity to meet and take a picture with Barbie! That’s right, there will be a live Barbie in 1000 stores. So bring your digital camera, because you can snap a picture of your little princess with Barbie, in front of a Diamond Castle Princess backdrop. Then be sure to take your memory stick from your camera to the Kodak Picture Maker machine in the photo department, and you will get a free photo print out of the picture with a special Barbie border.
Only one thousand stores will host a live Barbie, but 2,000 will have a standee. I am so excited that our local Walmart will have a live Barbie with whom Julia can pose for a Kodak moment! See if your nearest Walmart is participating by viewing the list of participating stores.

That’s awesome. Are they going to recycle them? None of the walmarts near me are participating, but one near my friend is. I will be sure to let her know!
