Blessings

by Christine - From Dates to Diapers on September 18, 2010

My week started off kind of rough… I thought, at first, that I ate something that didn’t agree with me, but after three days of having my stomach churn with every bit of food or liquid I consumed, I figured I just had a nasty stomach bug. A stomach bug that none of my kiddos ever seemed to get. Thank God.

Even though I couldn’t seem to kick the headache that accompanied my little bug, I did begin to feel better and get some of my energy back (as if I had any to begin with). But then I noticed that I had some pretty major swelling going on. Of course I kind of freaked out a bit, since I have not had much swelling occur with any of my pregnancies after the twins – during which I had toxemia.

I called my doctor on Thursday, due in part to the prodding I received from some of you on Facebook, and she wanted to see me immediately. Since I couldn’t make it to her office before her lunchbreak she told me to go to Labor and Delivery and get checked out for high blood pressure. At this point, I was really freaking out.

After 4 hours of being monitored at the hospital, it was determined that my blood pressure was “not too high,” although there was trace protein in my urine, and was sent home with orders to call if my headache or swelling worsened, drink plenty of fluids, take it easy and stay off my feet.

I wasn’t quite sure how the orders to “take it easy” and “stay off my feet” were going to work out… I mean, really? How does a homeschooling mom of six take it easy?

BUT — I underestimated my friends and family, to be sure! There has been someone here to help me, in some fashion, each of the past three days AND my kiddos will spend the next two at Mimi and Poppy’s house!

Though my week began on a rough note, and even ended on one, I can honestly say that I am blessed beyond words. Blessed with beautiful children who bring me flowers and make me laugh – with one dancing in my womb, amazingly generous friends and family, a husband who puts up with the cranky and emotional me, and a God who takes care of me so abundantly!

Rachel says "thank you!"

by Christine - From Dates to Diapers on November 28, 2008

Yesterday was the first day Rachel was able to get herself ready since her accident, and she looked great! She did fairly well with a full house and lots of noisy kiddos, but was still in a lot of pain. She wanted to express her gratitude to all of you who showed her such kindness…

Thankful

by Christine - From Dates to Diapers on November 27, 2008

For each new morning with its light,
For rest and shelter of the night,
For health and food, for love and friends,
For everything Thy goodness sends.

For flowers that bloom about our feet;
For tender grass, so fresh, so sweet;
For song of bird, and hum of bee;
For all things fair we hear or see,
Father in heaven, we thank Thee!

~Ralph Waldo Emerson

I truly have so much for which to be thankful.

I am thankful for my God and the blessings He has given me in my wonderful and hard working husband, my spunky and energetic kiddos, my wonderful family, my fun and and caring friends… YOU!

I am thankful that I am free to worship, free to speak, free to live and sing and dance!

I am thankful for the rain, the cool breeze, and the roof over our heads, comfy clothes to keep us warm, and good food.

I am thankful for laughter, for joy, for innocence and good times.

Wishing you a blessed Thanksgiving Day!!
