B2S :: 1st Day

by Christine - From Dates to Diapers on August 27, 2013

Sending five of my kids off on the first day of a new school year, in a new school, was bittersweet. This will be Noah’s very first year away from home, and I know I will miss him in a different way than I will miss the others.

This morning, as I said goodbye to each of them – with lots of hugs and kisses – I prayed that God would go before them and help us all transition well.

I was excited to hear all about their first day of school and rushed to pick them up. Josh and Noah get out earlier than my middle schoolers, so we had a chance to chat before the big kids got home.

Josh really likes his teacher, has already made a couple of friends, and said that “school is awesome”!

Noah had a fabulous first day. He said that he loves school and “can’t wait until tomorrow!” I really didn’t need to worry about him at all…

Ben and I had oour first day of school today, too. Well, sort of… We started the morning with a Bible lesson, math, and reading time. We then spent the afternoon getting the test of our school room organized and ready for the rest of the year. I have a feeling our official first day will be next Tuesday, after the holiday weekend.

Angry Birds Birthday Party

by Christine - From Dates to Diapers on April 26, 2013

angry birds birthday party

angry birds birthday party decorationsBen’s 7th birthday was in January, but with so much going on his birthday party didn’t happen. Oh, I planned one. Then I postponed it, canceled it, changed it, and finally kinda gave up.

So, when Party City contacted me and told me that they wanted to send me a bunch of goodies for one of the kids’ birthday parties, I was stoked. Perhaps we could manage to put together a party for Ben after all. It didn’t matter that we would be celebrating three months late.

Did it?

Party City sent us two HUGE boxes of Angry Birds party supplies, gifts, and favors. Boy, were we all excited! Since we were so close to Josh’s birthday, he and Ben decided it would be fun to have one GIANT party and invite everyone. So, I put it on the calendar and sent out evites. It was really going to happen.

Or, was it?

Kids got sick. I got sick. Life got busy. And again, we had to postpone the party.

When we finally had the bash of the year, it did not dissapoint. We had a house full of laughter, fun, goodies, and games!

  • beaks (gummy orange
  • worms (gummy worms)
  • bird poop (peanut M&Ms)

The edible sling shots were a big hit… they were gone just after I snapped this photo!

  • Breadstick Dough (refigerated section)
  • Cinnamon and Sugar Mix
  • Fruit by the Foot

What to do…

Shape the dough for two breadsticks in to the shape of the sling shot. Roll in cinnamon sugar, and place on a greased cookie sheet. Bake for the time indicated on the dough package. Once completely cooled, wrap with half of a roll of Fruit by the Foot. Watch them disappear.

My Little Chef

by Christine - From Dates to Diapers on January 26, 2011

My Josh has worn his chef coat every day since we returned home from Hollywood last week. No joke.

He has helped us make dinner every night that we have eaten at home. Seriously.

Josh has informed me (and everyone else) that he’d like to be a chef when he grows up. His goal? To own his own restaurant and have all of his siblings work for him. His parents, on the other hand, will be “too old” to work in his restaurant. Um, okay.

Team Captain

by Christine - From Dates to Diapers on September 27, 2010

Josh played so well during last week’s soccer game that his coach made him Team Captain this week, to recognize him as a star player, and he even got to wear a special arm band with a great big “C”!

Way to go, Joshie!

Team Captain

The Fireballers kicked some boot-ay out there Saturday, in spite of the heat, and won the game by a long shot. Just before the whistle blew to signal the end of the game, however, Joshie took a ball right to the face. The poor little dude got quite the headache, but sneaking a peek at that big yellow “C” on his arm seemed to make things all better!

Play-Doh Cake Challenge

September 23, 2010

The table was covered with Play-Doh. Plastic knives, molds, presses and empty containers were strewn all over the kitchen floor, oozing in to the living room. But, in the midst of the mess, it’s no wonder that Josh and Julia would decide to stage their own Challenge, being the Food Network fans that we are. [...]

“I can’t believe I lost my first tooth!”

March 19, 2010

These are the words that my elated 5-year-old keeps repeating. Over. And over. And over again. Yes, I have one excited kiddo on my hands! When I asked Josh what the most exciting part about losing a tooth was, he quickly replied, “Getting money!” Note to self: Remember to swap out the “lost” tooth for [...]

My Goofballs

January 13, 2010

Josh and Ben typically do not like having their pictures taken, so when I pulled my camera out today I was surprised that they both jumped up and started posing and goofing around! Such characters!
