Fall Beauty :: Hair

by Christine - From Dates to Diapers on September 23, 2014

Walmart was my one stop shop for changing things up as we move from Summer to Fall! Over the weekend, I shared with you my newest favorite outfit, just in time for Fall. But, I wanted to change my hair color (back to Auburn) and experiment a bit with styling accessories, too.

Clairol Natural Instincts 23RI started off by picking a haircolor kit that would be less damaging to my hair than other at-home dyes have been. I went with Clairol Natural Instints in Medium Auburn. The ammonia-free formula includes Aloe, Vitamin C & Coconut Oil, and delivered a truly radiant color that I am really excited about. It is only a demi-permanent color, so it will only last about 6 weeks, but at $5.92 per kit, I grabbed enough for the next couple of months. (Oh, and being that it’s a gentler formula, the treatment time is only 10 minutes!)

Hair Styles for Fall

After I colored my hair, Julia and I played around with some sparkly headbands and a flower clip. I still can’t decided if wearing a headband on my forehead like this is a hip trend for a mom, or if it makes me look like I am trying too hard to look younger than I am.

What do you think?

Either way, it was a fun change and seemed to go well with my distressed jeans and sparkly top.

I knew that Julz would grab the off-white flower clip, and of course she put it right in her hair! For those of us who rarely do much with our hair, it was fun to experiment with different looks.

My Go-To Fall Outfit

by Christine - From Dates to Diapers on September 21, 2014

I am loving the bright colors that are available in fashion and apparel at Walmart this Fall! Of course, you can still find all of the goodies that make dressing for this season so great – boots, scarves, oversized sweaters, and all – but adding bright splashes of color to my outfit is easy to do with the fun items I’m seeing. And, it’s just so fun!

My Go-To Fall Look

I pretty much live in denim, and with my new fitness regimen, I am noticing that my bum and thighs are bigger (which is certainly not a bad thing), so my pants are fitting different… It was time to update my wardrobe and Walmart was the perfect place to shop for jeans. I was excited to find these super comfy No Boundaries distressed skinny jeans for only $19.88. My younger boys just don’t understand why I bought my pants with holes in them, but I love the look! There was also a pair of boot cut jeans in store for the same price that I just had to have. They fit so nicely.

Being that Texas stays pretty warm, even through the Fall, this hooded tab sleeve pullover I found in the Junior section is perfect for the season. (Walmart also has a pink one with a silver and black heart, as well as a cream one with a skull.) The colorful infinity scarf ($4.97 for two!) I paired with this outfit matches perfectly with the turquoise pull strings and does a great job of making my pink flats (only $5 in store!) pop.

My new favorite outfit for Fall is complete with some bangles, hoop earrings, and a sparkly headband – all found at Walmart. I am extremely excited to share that my complete outfit (shown here) was purchased for less than $50!

Spring Wardrobe Staples at Walmart

by Christine - From Dates to Diapers on March 22, 2014

To be honest, Walmart isn’t the first place that comes to mind when planning a shopping trip to find clothing for myself. I’m one who loves to find fashionable items at small boutique shops, and I tend to look for items that are fresh and different.

BUT, when shopping for wardrobe staples, Walmart IS my first stop shop. Especially in the Spring, when I am updating my tanks, tees, and leggings. In fact, you just can’t beat the $3.96 price tag on the Faded Glory tanks, especially since they carry 27 colors and designs.

With just 3 Faded Glory Ribbed Tanks from Walmart I have created 5 fun outfits.

5 ways to wear a tank

1. A Night Out with the Girls
Black leggings, red tank, black jacket, a great necklace, and fab heels.

2. Running Errands
My favorite jeans, cream tank, mustard sweater, silver and gold necklace, and leapord print flats

3. An Afternoon at the Park
Grey leggings, blue camo tank, and my fave Texas pendant. A pair of flip flops would complete this outfit, but I end up taking my shoes off at the park. Don’t you?

4. Blog Conference Time
George pencil skirt, cream tank, thick black belt, fab necklace, and black heels. I’ll grab my black jacket, too, since it’s always cold in conference rooms.

5. Lunch with the Family
My favorite jeans (rolled a few times), red tank, the owl necklace Timmy got me for Christmas, and a great pair of black sandals.

Now, as you can see, I wear tanks with just about everything. You just can’t wrong with them, whether you want a casual or dressy look. It doesn’t matter if you are sporting jeans, skirts, or shorts. I wear them under tees, jackets, and sweaters. I have one in just about every color, more than one in black, and several in white. I even like to layer colors, add some accesories, and voila! A great outfit is born.

Walmart even has some items your guy may like. Their men’s polos (by George) are only $9.94, and come in 30 different colors.

My Summer Essentials

by Christine - From Dates to Diapers on July 7, 2013

I love Summertime. These hot days mean beach towels and flip-flops, sunshine and bronzed skin. Lounging by the pool and picnics at the beach are how I dream of spending the warm afternoons.

When I’m not packing for a big move, that is.

Anyway, there a few items that have become some of my must-haves for this season.

My Summer Essentials

I’m a California girl, so flip-flops are a must for me. In fact, I wear flip-flops most days, hot or cold. My new Havaianas SLIM PARADISOs (in Salmon) are my latest favorites. I can wear them with anything – pants, shorts, and skirts. Love them.

My iPhone 5 is very well protected with the Otterbox Armor case. Not only is it sandproof, but it is also waterproof and shockproof. This case is a bit bulkier than I’d like for it to be, but I know my phone is well protected while we’re trying to stay cool.

I don’t go anywhere without covering my face in Loreal’s Sublime Sun Advanced Sunscreen Liquid Silk Lotion for Face. This light lotion gives UVA/UVB Protection with an SPF of 30. It’s also water resistant and never becomes shiny or greasy. This lotion is perfect for a makeup base on hot and sunshiny days.

Humid summer days are the worst for my frizzy, curly hair. Loreal’s Advanced Haircare Smooth Intense Xtreme Straight Crème is perfect for up to 72 hours of smooth frizz control.

Burt’s Bees Sun Protecting SPF 8 Lip Balm with Passion Fruit is the only balm I put on my lips when I’m out in the sun (unless I brush on a light lipgloss). I get nasty cold sores from overexposure, so protecting my lips from the sun is uber important.

What items are on your summer essentials list?

Disclosure: All items listed above, with the exception of the lip balm, were some of those given to me on my #JerseyLove trip last month. All opinions are mine – they really have become my favorites!

Spring Fashion at Walmart

April 19, 2013

The weather around here has been odd, to say the least. One day it’s cold and raining, and the next it’s warm and sunny. They say April showers bring May flowers, but perhaps the flowers will bloom early this year. Today was gorgeous! The wind has finally died down and the temperatures in the mid […]

Earth’s Autumn

September 25, 2012

Cool, crisp breezes. Comfy, cozy sweaters. Pumpkin Spice Lattes. Long pants and tall boots. Autumn is my favorite time of the year. If only the weather would cooperate. Unfortunately, with clear skies and temps in the 90s and 100s, there is not a bit of Autumn in the air. Yet. You can bet that, as […]

Most of you have had babies and, like me, can attest to the fact that your body has changed and will never again be the same as it was in your early twenties. Your favorite jeans no longer fit and the tops that you once wore hang loosely over your chest. Embracing your new body – […]

Maternity Fashion Must-Haves

October 9, 2010

To compliment the fab finds I added to my maternity wardrobe over the summer, I was introduced to some great items that made staying in fashion on a daily basis, with a big belly bump, possible. I already layered most of my tops with tanks, the Hip-T or my Blush Topless Undershirts, but since I’m […]

My Maternity Fashion Crisis {Averted}

October 3, 2010

Do you remember, over the summer, when I felt like I was wearing the same thing over and over again? I had a maternity fashion crisis, of sorts, so stuck in the tank-top-and-skirt rut that I created for myself. I wanted t be comfortable and fashionable, but it just hadn’t happened. Well, I managed to […]

Land’s End Swimwear

July 9, 2010

If you read my maternity fashion post from the other day, you will not be surprised to hear that I have never owned a maternity swimsuit. Now, before you assume that I don a tank and a pair of shorts to the pool, let me tell you that I don’t have a problem bearing my […]

My Maternity Fashion Crisis

July 7, 2010

It’s been three long years since I was pregnant with Noah. Many things have changed – This time around I am definitely bigger than I was with any of my first five pregnancies, including the twins. And more uncomfortable. One thing, however, has stayed the same – I loathe maternity clothes. If I had my […]
