Life As We Know It

by Ray on October 7, 2010

What happens when a young couple dies and leaves their one-year-old to their two best friends…who aren’t married and don’t like each other?

Massive tension is what happens. That’s the premise of the movie Life As We Know It.

Life As We Know It

Here’s what you need to know… despite the morbidity of the parents dying (which isn’t shown), this movie is really funny. Christine was laughing out loud throughout the film and told me it was much funnier than she’d expected.

That’s because the two new parents are thrown full speed into parenting this child…not to mention living with each other – at the wishes of the deceased. And they don’t know a thing about children. Dirty diapers, messy meals, necessary naps and shared schedules all lead to many laughs. And eventually to love…maybe. I don’t want to ruin it for you.

If you have kids, this is a great story and will resonate with you. Full disclosure: there are some pretty sexual situations and drug use. Ok, let’s just say they have a few brownies one night. Anyway, it’s not something you’d take your kids to see…but date night, that’s another matter altogether.

Further, the character development is good. Messer, played by Josh Duhamel, goes from being an immature womanizer to a loving and devoted father, while Katherine Heigl’s character, Holly, learns to relax and enjoy life.

If you like funny situations and romantic comedy, this film is definitely for you!

This was a compensated review.
All opinions are mine.

There May Be Diapers, But We Don’t Forget the Dates

by Christine - From Dates to Diapers on December 17, 2009

Ray and I are always pretty good about taking time out to spend an evening together, just the two of us. We may have gone “from dates to diapers” but we certainly haven’t forgotten about the dates! I truly believe that our date nights have been extremely influential in keeping our marriage so exciting. I look forward with much anticipation to these special nights.

dateWell, tonight was one such night. Ray and I first headed downtown for the Holiday #SacTweetUp, at Park Ultra Lounge, where I had THE BEST Jolly Rancher martini and we mixed and mingled with other social media mavens. Since both of us are BIG sushi fans, we then headed to Mikuni – our favorite sushi restaurant – and gorged on a plate of spicy seared ahi and some amazing sweet and sour rolls. (Kinda makes you drool for sushi, huh?)

The best part of the night, though, was when Ray stole a kiss during our short walk from one place to another, the playful banter about “parking” just to make out, and the uninterrupted conversation. Together. Without the kids.

How about you… Do you see the importance of date nights?
How do you reconnect with your spouse?

Date nights for us are super important. They provide an opportunity to reconnect in a way that we can’t with the distractions of home and family pulling at us. No diapers, no laundry, no pressing emails. Just us.

Taking Chances

by Christine - From Dates to Diapers on October 15, 2008

Ray got plenty of ribbing from the guys because of where we went for our date night last night. I think they were really all secretly wishing they could have taken their wives to see a pop diva! Or, perhaps they just weren’t willing to take a chance.

My husband, who is now the envy of all of my married girl friends, accompanied me to Celine Dion’s very first concert in Sacramento. Actually, we were both kind of excited to have such a fun way to spend the evening.

Celine’s world tour, “Taking Chances,” encompasses 5 continents, 25 countries and 88 cities. Her 7 1/2 year old son has been traveling with her, “tour-schooling” along the way, as has her 81 year-old mother…. Amazing!

It is very clear that Celine enjoys performing – she interacted with the audience, had fun with the dances and belted out that amazing soprano voice of hers! In some ways she reminded Ray and me of Julia, with her dramatic arm swings and theatrical moves.

All in all, it was a terrific show and an extremely fun night!

Thank you, One2One Network, for making our date night so much fun!
