#Blissdom ’12 In Photos

by Christine - From Dates to Diapers on February 26, 2012

I am 10,000 feet up in the air and on my way home from Nashville. I am leaving new and old friends, but returning to my sexy husband, beautiful kiddos AND a brand new nephew!

I may write a post or two about the fabulousness (and not so fabulousness) that was Blissdom. But, for now, enjoy some of my highlights. Instagram style.

.

Janice and me – forever friends and roomies – on day one.

I danced with the California Raisin and noshed on some yummy raisin cookies, fresh from the oven.

I was blessed with some extra special time with the beautiful and extremely talented Me Ra Koh and her husband Brian – who, I have to say are such an amazing couple, whose love for each other so very inspiring – as well as the hilarious Lu Braxton, the vivacious Jenny, and the adorable Maya.

A very grown-up, but adorable, Joe Jonas made an appearance. Many of our daughters will now have the “coolest” moms around!

Our long-time Blissdom bud, Chris Mann, was sighted and he even showed off his fabulous voice a bit! Such amazing talent! (Be sure to watch him on The Voice!!)

I got to squeeze a fabulous Bookieboo baby bump!

And had to grab a hug from the lovely Barbara Jones.

The Rascal Flatts are used to having hundreds of women scream at them, but hundreds of bloggers? I’m pretty sure it was a first!

I am thrilled that I shared dessert with the amazing Meredith, aka HooDeeHoo.

I enjoyed a champaign night cap with a lovely group of ladies, including Duong, Meredith, Danielle, Carole and Fadra.

The next day I found my way to Hershey’s garden, where I scored some of my kiddos’ favorite confections.

The gorgeous Danielle was just within arms’ reach every time I needed a big hug, which seemed to be quite often.

And Friday night brought Karaoke and more time with some of the most beautiful people to be found on the internetz.

I began my Blissdom ’12 experience with Jan. And we parted at the airport five days later. Exhausted, but full of bliss.

Type-A Parent Conference :: Take Aways

by Christine - From Dates to Diapers on July 5, 2011

It seems like I just returned from quaint Asheville, where the Type-A Parent Conference was held. Boy, was it fun. But, just like most conferences I attend, I came away with some great thoughts and ideas. And, new friends, too.

New friends - Annie (@mamadweeb) and Sweet Lucy

This was the first conference that I didn’t attend alone. Well, Ray attended BlogHer with me in 2008, and I attended a few while pregnant. But, I had a little man along with me at Type-A. Definitely a very different experience. Can’t say that I would bring my babies again, but Timothy sure was a popular little dude!

Timmy and Lisa (@daily_pinch)

Of all that I learned and experienced, there are a few that I’d like to share. A few that I will always think of when I think of my first experience at Type-A.

Patti Digh made the most impact on me as a speaker. However, I heard the same idea throughout the entire weekend from different speakers and panelists. Live intentionally. Do it. Now.

Ms. Digh shared how her book, Life is a Verb, came about. When her stepfather was diagnosed with lung cancer and died 37 days later, the timeframe made such an impression on her that she committed to ask herself every morning: What would I be doing today if I had only 37 days left to live? The answers changed her life and thus her book was born.

Digh went on to identify core practices to jump-start a meaningful life:

  1. Say Yes to yourself. This might mean that you say no to others.
  2. Trust Yourself and go with your gut.
  3. Slow Down and enjoy the little things.
  4. Be Generous
  5. Speak Up
  6. Love More

The idea I heard over and over was do it now. Don’t wait to follow your dreams, but find the meaning in the small things in your life. And, live your life like you were dying.

Ray’s been trying to get me to realize this for years… and act on it.

Me with Jennifer (@mombloggersclub), Jendi (@jendisjournal) & Monica (@mommybrain)

The closing keynote was Liz Gumbinner – the super-woman behind Mom-101.com and CoolMomPicks.com. In response to the question of how she does it all, she recently wrote a post listing all of the things she doesn’t do, so she can accomplish what she does. She spoke on the same thing – dispelling the myth of doing it all. She challenged us all to write out our own list, so we may realize (or help those around us realize) that no one is capable of doing it all. It is so freeing to realize this. Be sure to watch for MY list.

Laura (@1momof5) and Janice (@5minutesformom)

Another thing I came to realize last weekend, was that I have amazing friends! I mean, I already knew this, but seeing a bunch of my online friends in real life, was just… refreshing.

The Social Media Moms (Some of us, anyway)

Some of my fellow Walmart Moms and me

My participation as a Walmart Mom made my attendance at Type-A possible. All travel and accommodations, including my conference pass, were provided by Walmart.

Mommy Blogging

April 29, 2008

Tweet There is quite a buzz these days about being a successful MommyBlogger (or Bloggin‘ Mama as I like to call myself). There seem to be two camps of noisy vocal Mom Bloggers. There are those who whine about the fact that they don’t get pitches from companies. They complain that they were not invited [...]
