A Good Excuse to Eat Ice Cream

by Christine - From Dates to Diapers on July 7, 2008

July is National Ice Cream Month!

Who do you think declared July as such?
A) Ben & Jerry
B) Baskin Robbins
C) Ronald Reagan
D) The International Ice Cream Association (yes, there is such a group!)?

Ronald Reagan is the correct answer!

In 1984, President Ronald Reagan declared July as National Ice Cream Month and the third Sunday in July, National Ice Cream Day. After discovering that over 90% of the American population consumes ice cream, he stated that these two days should be observed with “appropriate ceremonies and activities.” No doubt those activities including devouring some smooth and creamy ice cream!

In honor of National Ice Cream Month and National Ice Cream Day, I have decided to have a party… An Ice Cream Cyber-Social, that is. During the entire week of July 14th we will be celebrating ice cream with games, contests and, of course, PRIZES!!

So, mark your calendars, grab the button below and start spreading the word… The more guests we have join us, the better the party!!

The fun has begun —

  • Tell me about the most unusual flavors you’ve ever tried for a chance to win goodies from LaLoo’s — Unusual Flavors
  • I would love to hear about a childhood memory that includes ice cream. Leave your memories for a chance to win some Baskin Robbins gift checks – 10 winners! — Baskin Robbins Goodness

More prizes to come, from Hamilton Beach, Blue Bunny, and Haagen-Dazs!!!

We usually have a big BBQ for our friends every summer. It’s so much work. I just mentioned to my husband that I thought an ice cream social would be fun. We could supply the ice cream and each family could bring a topping.

But your ice cream social is much less work and won’t add inches to my hips!

I’ll put the button up!

Great idea – I’m all for celebrating ice cream! Not so much the extra inches to the waistline that come from overindulging though . . .
Off to put your button up:)

Of course it was Ronald Reagan! He’s also the president that gave Jelly Belly it’s rise to fame!

I love ice cream! I think I should go have some right now, to celebrate this ice cream social!
