We’re off…

by Christine - From Dates to Diapers on September 27, 2008

Thanks to everyone who took the time to leave a comment, email or tweet me with ideas for keeping the kiddos busy on our long trip down south. We’re set!

San Diego, here we come!

Here is what we have on the agenda:

  • After 4 hours in the car, we’ll stop tonight at Grandpa and Grandma’s. Then, church and lunch with them tomorrow.
  • After driving another 235 miles, tomorrow, we’ll arrive at our final destination.
  • Our very first visit to LegoLand and the Sea Life Aquarium will be on Monday. I think I’m about as excited as the kiddos!
  • We’ll spend some time at the beach and Balboa Park. The ocean is my absolute favorite place to be, even if it is a whole lot of work with little ones! And, of course the Park is amazing!
  • There will be a fun day at the San Diego ZooAnother favorite destination. Hey, every day in October kids under 11 are free Wanna meet us there?
  • We get to visit with some old friends, and meet some Twitter pals and Bloggin’ buddies. You know we can’t wait to see you, Julia! Oh, and Jen, Sugar, and Tonya – thrilled to get to meet you!
  • Hopefully we can enjoy some R and R… Well, as much as is possible with six kiddos around.
  • Then another stop at Grandpa and Grandma’s on the way back.

Sounds like quite a bit to cram in to one week, doesn’t it? Oh, but it will all be so much fun!

I will try to post a picture here and there while we are gone, but I will be sure to take lots of pictures and video to bombard you with upon our return.

I do have lots of great guests lined up for all of next week, so don’t be a stranger around here…. Please be sure to give my wonderful guests some comment love, and make them feel welcome, would you?

October – Breast Cancer Awareness Month

by Christine - From Dates to Diapers on September 27, 2008

Both of my Grandmothers are breast cancer survivors. Countless friends have been effected by this disease. Countless more will be. I am eager to do my part in bringing awareness to women everywhere about what to look for and how to detect early signs of breast cancer.

I won’t pretend to know it all – in fact, I know very little – but, beginning on October 6th, I will try to bring you some helpful tips and ways to take precautions against breast cancer. Here, at From Dates to Diapers, we will also be sharing ways to help those effected, and provide opportunities for you to get involved. And, of course, there will be a few giveaways, as well!

One of the ways you can begin to participate now in raising awareness is with Project Pink

Project Pink + Munchkin

Now through the end of October, Munchkin is playing a small part in helping moms focus on their own health by putting a spotlight on breast cancer prevention. Project Pink is a program that raises money for Susan G. Komen for the Cure and reminds moms, “don’t duck a breast exam.”

Here are some ways you can be a part of this campaign:

  • Email A Duck, Raise A Buck – This viral component enables individuals to email friends a virtual duck that reminds them to participate in routine breast exams. Users may track their ducks as they get forwarded around, and in turn, Munchkin will donate $0.05 to Susan G. Komen for the Cure for every duck forwarded.
  • Buy Your Own Duck – Created to be a visual reminder of routine breast exams, Munchkin’s 2008 limited edition Project Pink Bath Ducks will be available online and at select retailers nationwide for $3.00. One hundred percent of the net profits from the sale of these ducks will be donated to Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
  • Celebrity Duck eBay Auction – Celebrity participants, from Courteney Cox to Matthew McConaughey, have shown support of Project Pink by donating hand-decorated and autographed limited edition ducks. Each week in October, during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a number of celebrity-decorated ducks will be available for auction exclusively on eBa,y with all proceeds benefiting the Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

So, whether you buy a pink duck or simply spread the word, you can help Munchkin help moms stay healthy so we can continue being great parents.
